Dancer Reviews, an online publication that highlights and comments on the latest noteworthy dance shows and events playing in major cities including Chicago, is updating readers about the ongoing controversies surrounding former members of the British Royal Family, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle.

Chicago Dancer Reviews begins its coverage of the topic by highlighting a news report from the Associated Press titled “Harry, Meghan Air Grievances with Prince William and Other Royals in Netflix Series Finale.” The news report references Harry & Meghan, a six-part Netflix documentary series that launched its first three episodes on December 8 and then made the rest of the episodes available on the streaming platform on December 15, 2022.

Some of the notable revelations from the final three episodes of the Netflix series include Meghan’s suicidal ideations stemming from the reception she received from the royal family, the media, and online trolls, the couple’s decision to keep their baby out of the spotlight that continuously follows them, Prince Harry’s recounting of how his brother William scolded him at the Sandringham House in January 2020, Meghan’s privacy lawsuit against The Mail for publishing a confidential letter, and more details about their interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

The spokesperson for Chicago Dancer Reviews, David Parker, commented on the Associated Press’ reporting by saying, “The circumstances surrounding the exit of Harry and Meghan from the royal family is a quintessential example of how the modern world, always hungry for emotionally-charged content, is ready to prop up or tear down public figures at a whim. These have undoubtedly been a tumultuous few years for the couple as they have fought hard to protect their perception in the media’s town square. The Netflix series does a great job presenting the couple’s story and its lurid details from their perspective. It gives them a chance to hopefully find some catharsis and, when the dust is settled, live a normal life away from the public eye.”

Chicago Dancer Reviews also posted another article titled “Meghan Markle ‘feeding’ Prince Harry’s trauma response from Diana’s passing,” published in the international outlet, The News. The article discusses the Meghan Markle trauma response allegations made by Maureen Callahan, an award-winning American writer and investigative journalist for the New York Post who now also writes for the Daily Mail.

Maureen, in an article titled “Why Netflix Overpaid for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle documentary,” published on DailyMail.com on 9th December 2022, said that the $100 million documentary from Netflix being panned by audiences and critics alike, with a 38% critic score and 16% audience score, was karmic justice for the couple’s actions. The article’s headline also called Harry and Meghan “two untalented ungrateful hypocrites.”

Further, toward the end of the tabloid article, Maureen adds her own interpretation to one of the documentary’s scenes, where Harry and Meghan are being driven around in a vehicle. The quote that drew the most ire from commenters said, “We see Meghan feed into Harry's post-Diana trauma as she leans in and says to him 'Safety first' — e.g., there will be no speeding away from the non-existent hordes of photographers — you know, the ones we saw in the trailer for this vanity project.”

David Parker weighed in on Maureen’s observation about the couple’s interaction caught on tape by saying, “The Daily Mail’s article is a great example of the kind of challenges and criticisms that Harry and Meghan have been facing for a while. While the prior article from the Associated Press gives us a look into how the couple reacted to their treatment in the media, the article from the Daily Mail shows us where these concerns originate from. We here at Chicago Dancer Reviews wish the couple the best of luck with their future journey and pray that they find the strength to move on from this experience.”
