Lake Oswego, Oregon -

Tersigni Vision, a vision correction clinic in Lake Oswego, OR, has recently released an article that explains the wide variety of laser-assisted in situ keratomileuses (LASIK) and LASIK alternative vision correction procedures they offer in Portland. They offer customized treatment options to ensure the exact vision correction needs of a particular patient are met. The treatment is provided by Dr. Steven Tersigni, an ophthalmologist who was trained by world famous refractive surgeons. He was also one of the pioneering surgeons in the US trusted to perform the light adjustable intraocular lens (LAL) procedure. The article also examines how LASIK can enhance the lives of patients and provides answers to the various questions that people ask about LASIK.

Dr. Tersigni says, “We have more options to meet your exact vision correction needs. Maybe LASIK is the best option for you or it may be that one of our other modern LASIK alternatives will better fit your needs. We won’t squeeze you into LASIK if it’s not the best corrective procedure for you. Also, if you have been told you are not a LASIK candidate elsewhere, there could be a vision correction procedure at Tersigni Vision that will work for you. These are your eyes, the only pair you have, not a used car you are purchasing. We take the time to answer all of your questions, no matter how long it takes.”

There are a number of reasons why patients may choose Tersigni Vision rather than other providers. First of all, they offer personalized treatment options, not just LASIK but the entire range of modern vision correction alternatives. Second, they take a patient education approach to allow the patient to make a well-informed decision. Third, they offer concierge service and treatment at each step of the way. Fourth, they ensured minimized downtime for the patient after surgery. Fifth, Dr. Tersigni is a world-famous surgeon with advanced training in LASIK and modern vision correction procedures. And finally, Dr. Tersigni considers Portland his home, which means Portland patients are assured he will always be ready to answer their questions.

Tersigni Vision also provides LASIK alternatives and one of these is PRK or photorefractive keratectomy. This is a kind of refractive surgery where laser is employed to correct vision problems due to refractive errors, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. A refractive error is present when the eye is unable to focus light properly. By using a laser, the surgeon is able to modify the shape of the cornea, which will then improve the focusing of the light rays on the retina. PRK and LASIK are very similar. However, LASIK employs two lasers with the first laser for preparing the eye for the treatment while the second laser, which is an excimer laser, is used to reshape the cornea. In PRK, the surface is prepared with special drops and then an excimer laser is used to modify the shape of the cornea. With PRK, healing and recovery will be longer compared to LASIK.

Other options are the EVO ICL (implantable collamer lens) or better known as the implantable contact lenses; refractive lens exchange (RLE), which is a great alternative to LASIK surgery and may also help in resolving age-related vision problems and may even avoid the need for cataract surgery in the future; and SMILE or small incision lenticule extraction, which is another great alternative to LASIK for correcting nearsightedness and astigmatism.

Dr. Steven Tersigni graduated with cum laude honors from the University of Oregon and he earned his medical degree and master’s degree in public health from Tulane University’s School of Medicine in New Orleans. He finished his internship training at the Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. Next, he went for his ophthalmology residency training at the Ira G. Ross Eye Institute in Buffalo, NY. After that, he completed his fellowship in anterior segment and refractive surgery under the mentorship of world-famous vision correction surgeon, Dr. Y. Ralph Chu at the Chu Vision Institute in Minneapolis, MN. It was during this time that Dr. Tersigni was trained in the entire spectrum of vision correction solutions. He worked for some time at one of the leading vision correction centers in the US before he finally established Tersigni Vision.
