A typical breast augmentation procedure involves four steps: anesthesia, incision, implant placement and closing the incision. In the first stage, a certified anesthesiologist will ensure the patient is put under general anesthesia. Following this, Dr. Stavrou will perform an incision in the infra-mammary fold, around the areola or inside the axilla. The incision site will be determined prior to surgery, and he always aims to select areas that will make the incision as inconspicuous as possible (to help ensure minimal scarring and disguise any remnant of the procedure). In the first 48 hours following the procedure, they may experience an elevated body temperature, fatigue, soreness and even swelling in their breasts, along with soreness as the skin learns to accommodate the new breast size. This is expected, so patients need not be too concerned.
