Dr. Mark Hickman, the founder of Microsurgical Vasectomy Reversals, New Braunfels, Texas, recently talked to the media to dispel some of the myths surrounding the cost to reverse a vasectomy.

Dr. Mark Hickman says, “There has always been this assumption that it is not possible to perform a vasectomy for cheap and if the cost is below a certain threshold, it is too good to be true. This is a persistent viewpoint that we in the industry have been trying to correct for many years now. Older vasectomy techniques indeed left a lot to be desired and cheaper surgeries to reverse a vasectomy either ended up being a failure or, in some cases, caused further damage. However, today we use the latest advancements in microsurgery to perform the procedure and the shortcomings of the older methods have been eliminated. The surgery to reverse a vasectomy is safer and more effective than ever before. We have even managed to bring the costs of the surgery down to levels that you would consider a bargain. If you have felt the desire to have children again, we urge you to consider a vasectomy reversal as it has never been as accessible and as affordable as it is now.”

Dr. Mark Hickman’s clinic offers two all-inclusive affordable options. The cheaper microsurgical vasectomy reversal option costs $3,300 and it includes local anesthesia and an oral sedative. The $4,200 offer is performed under IV sedation and is administered by a Board Certified Anesthesiologist. Both microsurgical options are all-inclusive with no hidden fees.

Dr. Mark Hickman is an expert in laparoscopic procedures who has also invented several surgical instruments and has been awarded a U.S. patent and recognized as a contributor to several other important minimally invasive patents. He began his private practice in New Braunfels, TX, in 1988 and soon after became an early pioneer of laparoscopic (minimally invasive telescopic) surgery. He also had the honor of serving his country in Operation Desert Storm aboard the hospital ship USNS Mercy. He is an active member of his church and is also involved with and passionate about the Men’s ACTS Retreat Ministry. He also currently serves on the Apostolate Board of the North American Province of the Missionaries of the Holy Family. The doctor also currently serves on the Board of Directors of TIPHER (The Institute for Public Education, Health, and Research).

When Dr. Mark performs microsurgical vasectomy reversal under local anesthesia, he first makes a small incision on each side of the scrotal skin. He then finds the two ends of the vas deferens and frees them from the surrounding scar tissue. The doctor will then perform a microsurgical repair of the vas deferens with a Zeiss OPMI-MDM operating microscope and fine nylon suture that is much finer than a human hair. A typical repair requires 10-15 stitches. The doctor says that his goal is to “create direct and careful alignment of the lumen of the two ends of the vas and a watertight closure for a higher success rate.” A sample of fluid from the testicular end of the vas deferens is then placed on a glass slide and examined under a laboratory microscope to examine whether the procedure was a success.

One of the most recent reviews of the doctor’s services highlighted on his clinic’s Google My Business page says, “Dr. Hickman and staff are absolutely amazing in every way. We had a reversal done in January of 2021 and our daughter was born on March 10th, 2022. Dr. Hickman was very thorough and set realistic expectations from the beginning, you feel the love he has for what he does and the love his staff has for what they do. I highly recommend using Dr. Hickman. We flew from VA to see him, he will forever be a huge part of our life. Thank you, Dr. Hickman and staff.”
