Philadelphia, PA based Maid Service Direct - Northeast has published a new blog post that aims to help homeowners understand what they can do to help their maid deliver a better service. The post offers certain tips on communication and other aspects of the field that can lead to a maid who is able to exercise all of their talents and ultimately create a more functional household.

“Whether you have had a professional cleaner care for your home before or it’s your first time,” the post states, “it always helps to prepare in advance. Expecting your house cleaner to keep your space immaculate between cleanings is not realistic. You will still need to do some upkeep between the visits of your home cleaning service to keep your home fresh and clean. Here are some things your home cleaner wishes you knew, but may not tell you.”

House Cleaners

The first tip on the list is to describe the job accurately. As the post notes, cleaners who work in residential environments are still professionals who are expected (and trained) to deliver a certain standard of service. They have a series of tools they prefer, and they know what works best in a given situation. As such, the post recommends that homeowners be frank with their home cleaner and describe the state of their house (or the area that needs to be cleaned) as closely as possible.

Failing to do so can lead to consequences for the homeowner as well as the cleaner. While the latter party will now have to deal with a mess they may not be as prepared for, the customer may also have to account for a delay and not have the room or property as a whole ready on schedule. If they were planning to have guests over or were otherwise relying on a clean space by a certain time for any reason, this may not be possible anymore. A conversation in which the scope of the job is clearly laid out can help both parties — the cleaner will not have to deal with any unpleasant surprises with the wrong tools, and homeowners can rest assured that their home will get the attention it needs.

Maid Service Direct adds that this is true for the job as a whole as well. Home cleaners, according to the company, will usually clean out areas that they can comfortably reach with a 3-step stool. Unless specified otherwise, other areas will largely be ignored, so homeowners are encouraged to bring this up with their cleaning service during their initial calls. If such needs can be accommodated safely, the provider may be willing to comply. The post affirms that the cleaner’s safety is usually a provider’s top priority, and elevated areas may not be covered if they cannot be reached without undue risk.

The next tip on the list involves a common household item that many might not expect to need extra care: window blinds. Maid Service Direct points out that window blinds, by design, sit in the sun all day and are permanently exposed to the heat. The result of this is that they can get worn out and brittle, making them far easier to break during a cleaning. As a result, many cleaning services will require the customer to accept a disclaimer prior to cleaning in the event they suffer any damage.

The post recommends, “Be mindful of the present condition of your window blinds when requesting a cleaning for them. Cleaners will always do their best to clean them without causing damage, but even the most delicate cleaning can end with a few broken blinds.”

Finally, homeowners should keep in mind that their cleaner will generally avoid moving heavy objects to clean under or behind them since this puts them at risk of injury. This applies to heavy appliances, furniture and so on, so anyone who wants a certain space cleaned should ensure it is cleared of heavy objects before the cleaner’s arrival. Again, discussing a cleaner’s requirements with them beforehand can make it easier for the homeowner to determine what needs to be done to prepare the house for a cleaning.

Maid Service Direct regularly publishes blog posts in this space that serve to educate readers about the profession, and homeowners are welcome to schedule an appointment here as well.
