The Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy is announcing a new continuing education class for massage therapists available at their facility. This class is called Essentials of Orthopedic Massage, and is taught by world renowned massage therapy educator Whitney Lowe, who is regarded as a leading expert on orthopedic massage. Lowe has worked in massage therapy for over 30 years, eventually becoming an educator and writing a number of texts and articles about the practice of massage.

Whitney Lowe is known in the massage therapy world as a kind, patient, and accessible educator, and he has won a number of awards for his work as a massage therapist and educator, including the Massage Therapy Foundation Humanitarian Award in 2015 and One Concept Group’s National Educator of the Year award in 2013. The Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy is very excited to have Whitney Lowe teaching the Essentials of Orthopedic Massage course with them. Their Academic Director, Jan Frus, says, "Whitney Lowe is a legend in the massage therapy industry, and we are so grateful to be hosting him and Essentials of Orthopedic Massage at The Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy.” More information about Whitney Lowe and his Academy of Clinical Massage can be found at https://www.academyofclinicalmassage.com/

The Essentials of Orthopedic Massage continuing education course with Whitney Lowe is a comprehensive training program that will teach massage therapists rehabilitation science, and give them the skills they need for massage therapy in cases of musculoskeletal pain, injuries, or movement limitations. This continuing education course will help massage practitioners learn how to assess soft tissue and provide them with techniques for making therapeutic decisions based on their assessment of the client’s situation and their clinical reasoning, instead of simply using a standardized set of practices for all clients. Different bodies, and injury situations, can be very different, and being able to assess a client and make suitable therapeutic decisions can greatly increase the success a massage therapist has with their clients, especially those suffering from pain or injury conditions. Not only does this course promise to improve students skills in these areas, certified massage therapists can use the course for 32 hours of continuing education credits with the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork - the NCBTMB, at https://www.ncbtmb.org/ - the main organization in the United States for responsible for certifying continuing education for massage therapists.

Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy is located in Playa Samara, Costa Rica, a coastal town nestled in the rolling green hills of the Nicoya Blue Zone of Costa Rica. The Blue Zones are places designated by author Dan Buettner as the places in the world where people are healthiest and live the longest. Researchers study these areas to learn what can help people around the world live longer, healthier lives, but massage therapists can experience the place for themselves when taking classes at the Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy. When not in class, students can explore downtown Samara, and its restaurants, bars, discos and gift shops. The tranquil bay is surrounded by white sand beaches and palm trees, making it an ideal location for fun water activities like kayaking, snorkeling, stand up paddleboarding, and even swimming. Students stay in Costa Rican style bungalows in the heart of Playa Samara, giving them easy access to the beach, as well as use of fully equipped kitchens, a swimming pool, gardens, WiFi, and hot water showers. Students can stay in shared accomodations or upgrade to have their own space, and air conditioning is also available for an extra fee.

The Essentials of Orthopedic Massage course will cost $1,120 USD for tuition and shared lodging, or $1,320 for tuition and a single room. The course will run from May 15th to May 21st, 2022, and the cost includes the 32 continuing education credits, as well as airport pickup and dropoff, six nights of lodging in the fully appointed bungalows, and a course manual and use of classroom facilities. Students will need to pay separately for airfare and their meals while in Costa Rica. Massage therapists who are interested in this course are encouraged to act fast, because, as the school’s Director of Operations, Tess McGrath, says, "We expect this class to sell-out quickly as orthopedic massage has been one of the most highly requested continuing education courses we've ever offered at the Costa Rica School of Massage Therapy." Interested students can learn more about and express their interest in the course at the school’s website, https://crsmt.com/essentials-of-orthopedic-massage-in-costa-rica/.
