New York: Keetick L. Sanchez Esq, founder of K L Sanchez Law Office PC and a construction accident attorney in New York discusses common fatal construction accident cases and what should be done in such situations.
The construction accident attorney has been analyzing and reviewing several fatal cases that have occurred on the job site and offers explanations for what could have led to these accidents. These cases are not uncommon in the industry where there is a high risk of injury or death due to poor working conditions, inadequate safety measures, or dangerous equipment.
New York City construction workers work hard every day, knowing the risks and injuries they may face. The workers should expect their employers and supervisors to ensure that their workplaces are safe, even if their jobs can be dangerous.
Ms. Sanchez explains that this is often not the case. “Employers often place safety above profits. OSHA created a list of "fatal 4" construction accident categories, which are the most common causes of death in the United States. These include: construction falls, strikes by objects on a construction site, electrocutions, and “caught-in-between” construction accidents or compression or crushing accidents.” said Ms. Sanchez.
In the United States, there are many risks and hazards that can lead to injuries on construction sites. New York construction sites are known for having dangerous conditions that go unnoticed or are deliberately ignored. All construction sites must be inspected to ensure safety.
The highest number of fatalities in any industry is construction according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in New York City. New York City data shows an increase of 221% in the number and severity of injuries sustained at construction sites compared to five years ago. This increase in construction-related injuries and fatalities cannot be ignored.
New York officials have increased penalties against those who cause dangerous conditions on construction sites and added inspectors, but this does not seem to be enough. OSHA has reported that up to a quarter of all New York City accident reports are missing from the city logs. One-fourth (45,000) of New York City construction sites are not following safety regulations.
NYC's statistics on fatality and injuries are worse than those in the national data. Additionally, construction workers can be hurt at any time. Numerous new laws have been passed in order to protect vulnerable workers. New York, in particular, has passed laws that allow injured employees to receive assistance by holding negligent parties responsible.
