Channel host Dave Taylor — for whom the channel is named after — has long been interested in technology and its potential for changing how people go about their daily lives. While his background, education and experience in various associated subjects mean that he possesses a comprehensive understanding of the technology he examines, one of the hallmarks of Ask Dave Taylor’s electronics reviews is that he is able to simplify virtually any topic for a broader audience. As a result, his reviews and other content are extremely accessible for people of all ages, from children to the elderly and everyone in-between.

Smartphones are an excellent example of cutting-edge technology that most people use everyday but have little to no technical expertise in. On the other hand, many of the functions these devices offer may be easy to use for younger users but remain too obscure to be useful for older buyers. Recognizing this disparity, Taylor makes it a point to cover every aspect of a smartphone, even those which some users may take for granted. The channel as a whole is committed to answering any questions from viewers in a clear and honest manner.

In his recent video on the Google Pixel 6 Pro 5G video, for instance, he explains that, “This is powered by the Tensor CPU, which is really a pretty powerful new chip. Google, Apple and a lot of these companies are bringing their chip design in-house so they can really focus on what they think is most important.” He also touches on what certain specifications will mean for the end user, including the increased pixel density (which will result in a more crisp image) and the high refresh rate (which will make motion on-screen appear much smoother).

In an earlier review, Taylor also goes over the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 Smartphone. While his review does cover the phone’s specifications and its unique folding mechanism, he understands that many in his audience may not be looking for a phone that folds, especially if it comes at the cost of other components that some may value more (such as the camera module) and features a relatively hefty price tag. Taylor’s first priority is to ensure his audience has all the information — and context — they need to make purchases they will not regret.

“The issue with it is the screen and the folding,” he elaborates. “There is a visible bump, but the problem is what it’s going to be like in a year, what it’s going to be like in two years.” Taylor’s long career also means that he has friends and sources from all over the industry, and he consulted with some of these sources to learn that many people were actually returning their Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 devices because the screen was malfunctioning at the hinge. This led him to conclude that this flexible screen technology may need a few more generations of research before it is truly ready for a general audience. In turn, he recommends it more for those who do not mind experiencing such issues with their phone as their ultimate goal may be to simply have the most advanced device in their pocket. Conversely, he advises people against buying the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 if they are looking for a phone that is expected to last for at least a few years.
