Contractors State License Center (CSLC), the only contractors license school in Los Angeles that offers free tutoring to its students, has been offering contractors license classes since 1974.

All businesses or individuals who construct or alter any building, highway, road, parking facility, railroad, excavation, or other structure in Los Angeles must be licensed by the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) if the total cost (labor and materials) of one or more contracts on the project is $500 or more. Contractors, including subcontractors, specialty contractors, and persons engaged in the business of home improvement must be licensed before submitting bids. Contractors can be licensed as general engineering contractors, general builders, or in more specialized trades, such as framing, well drilling, landscaping, or masonry. Licenses may be issued to individuals, partnerships, corporations, or joint ventures. The CSLB also issues licenses to Limited Liability Companies (LLCs).

The exam consists of two separate tests. All qualifying individuals must pass the standard Law and Business examination. In addition, qualifying individuals must pass a second test covering the specific trade or certification area for which they are applying. The only exception is the C-61 Limited Specialty Classification, which does not require a trade examination. The tests are multiple-choice and consist of about 125 questions. The trade exams vary in length depending on the classification. There are about 80 to 125 questions on the trade examination, on average. In order to pass the law test, the test taker is required to answer 73% of the questions correctly. The test taker will be informed at the test site about the exact percentage of correct answers needed to pass each trade examination.

The exam is fairly challenging and most people require outside assistance or study materials in order to pass it. CSLC’s course is focused entirely on the exam and the information and techniques needed to help contractors pass on their very first try. The center’s materials are organized to make the absorption and retention of the syllabus as easy as possible. CSLC also employs a full-time contractor on staff who continually researches the test requirements and supplements the course materials accordingly.

Classroom instructions last 6 weeks, with contractors required to attend for 2 hours once a week. Along with the classroom program, the center also provides interactive practice tests and a home study program. The home study program gives contractors the freedom to study at the time and place of their choice. The course materials, classroom instruction, and rigorous testing are the reasons why CSLC has a very high success rate and its courses get highly recommended.

A spokesperson for CSLC talks about its contractors license classes in Los Angeles by saying, “We are proud to offer our services to the hard-working contractors and tradesmen of California. We help you elevate your career to the next level by giving you that little nudge you need to pass the CSLB test. We know that you are an expert in your field but there is a reasonable possibility that there may be some gaps in your knowledge that prevent you from taking and clearing the contractor’s license examination the first time. We prepare you by making sure you learn, grasp, and memorize all the intricacies of the law and your chosen trade so that you can confidently apply for the exam and clear it without going back for a second attempt. As soon as you clear the exam a whole world of opportunities at reputable companies in your trade will open up to you. You will be able to find gainful employment at an organization that respects your time and skills. You will even have the choice to go at it solo, charting your own destiny. So if you are ready to take control of your career and need that little extra help to get you past the finish line, contact Contractors State License Center today.”

Readers can contact CSLC at the phone number (800) 562-0008 from Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM PST for a free consultation.
