Ask Dave Taylor, a YouTube channel dedicated to consumer electronics and electronics reviews, which also has a Q&A tutorial website offering online help and customer technology support, has recently posted the answer to the question on how to edit Microsoft Word documents in Google Docs. The question was submitted by a teacher who only uses Google Docs but some students submit their homework assignments as Word files. Fortunately, word processing systems have a high level of interoperability, which means that Google Docs can open and also save files in various formats, including DOCX, ODT, RTF, TXT, PDF, HTML, and even the EPUB format.

Uploading a file to Google Docs is done using the file picker on the upper right portion of Google Docs screen. This leads to the “Open a file” screen, which has an Upload tab along the top, which when clicked provides an area in the center of the window where the user can simply drag a file into, such as a Word document, in order to open it. Google Docs will then upload the file and display it on the screen. The user can now view the file and make some changes to it.

Saving the edited Word document can be easily done by clicking on the File menu of Google Docs and choosing Download. Here, it is also possible to select the desired output format. Once again, the file can be saved in a number of formats. So, if the file is to be saved also in Word DOCX format, the user can simply choose that option before saving the file. This will download the file to the user’s computer, which can be easily accessed again when using Google Docs.
