Rob Levine & Associates Personal Injury Lawyers, based in Providence, Rhode Island, has published their roundup list of recalled products for the month of May. This list covers products that have been found to be faulty, defective and dangerous.

The list for May covers a wide range of recalled products. Kia is in the process of recalling over 440,000 vehicles for a second time. The models being recalled are Optima sedans from 2013 to 2015 and Sorento SUVs from 2014 to 2015, due to the risk of engine fires. These same vehicles were already recalled in August 2020 for the same issues. Affected vehicles have been reported to have brake fluid leak into the Hydraulic Electric Control Unit, which can potentially cause electrical shortages that could lead to engine fires, even when the vehicle is not in use. Due to this, all vehicle owners have been instructed to park the vehicle away from property which could be damaged, including buildings and other vehicles. Owners will be notified via mail by July 2nd, and repairs or replacements can be done at local dealerships.

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Inc. is voluntarily recalling 50,868 bottles of RIOMET ER™. RIOMET ER™, also referred to as metformin hydrochloride, are tablets used by people with Type 2 diabetes to help control high blood sugar. However, this product is being recalled due to the presence of N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) at above normal levels. NDMA is classified as a probable human carcinogen (a substance that could cause cancer) and is sometimes found in water and foods. RIOMET ER™ comes packaged in a 16oz round bottle with a 500 count of 500mg extended-release tablets. Patients consuming RIOMET ER™ should continue taking their medication and contact their pharmacist, physician or medical provider to discuss alternative options.

Next on the recall list are certain Hydralyte tablets that have been recalled due to an undisclosed danger to pregnancy. The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) announced the recall of ten batches of Hydralyte Strawberry Kiwi Effervescent Electrolyte Tablets after the presence of an inactive ingredient known as Carthamus tinctorius was discovered in the product. Carthamus tinctorius should not be consumed during pregnancy as it poses the risk of miscarriage. The product does not have the mandatory label warning ‘Do not use if pregnant or likely to become pregnant’ as it should have due to the inclusion of this ingredient. Consumers are urged to stop the use of these tablets if they are pregnant or if pregnancy is a possibility. The recalled products can be returned for a full refund.

Certain cat foods by Natural Balance Pet Foods, Inc. are also being recalled due to potential salmonella contamination. Midwestern Pet Foods, also responsible for several other recalls over the past year for salmonella contamination and aflatoxin poisoning, is recalling the 5 lb and 10 lb bags of their Natural Balance L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets Green Pea & Chicken Formula Dry Cat Food. Salmonella infection in cats presents itself with symptoms that include vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, fever or excessive salivation and is contagious to humans as well. Consumers are urged to immediately stop the use of and dispose of this product, and to contact the company for a full refund.

The list also highlights other news about household products. Thousands of folding chairs and bar stools sold at Walmart are being recalled. Cheyenne Products has recalled 795,000 Mainstay folding chairs and bar stools in which the weld that attaches the legs to the bottom of the seat can potentially break, posing a fall risk. These products were sold in Walmart stores across the country and through the website from January 2014 through April 2021. The recalled chairs and stools have padded seats upholstered in vinyl or microfiber and have a white sticker label on the bottom of the seats. These stickers include the name Cheyenne Products or Cheyenne Industries as well as the production date by month and year. A full list of recalled items can be found on the company website and the company will also refund the products. The complete list of recalled products can be found on the list on Rob Levine’s website.
