The Burbank, CA based Contractors State License Center (CSLC) is encouraging those who want to take the California contractor license exam to sign up for classes today. The Center coaches students on the various topics covered by the exam and specializes in helping contractors pass the exam on their first attempt. Wielding over 50 years of experience in the industry, CSLC is also the only contractor school in Los Angeles that offers free tutoring to their students.

According to the Center, passing the exam as quickly as possible is necessary in order for a contractor to get started on the next phase of their career and begin accepting bigger (and more lucrative) projects. As this exam cannot be retaken immediately, the delay in passing could mean the loss of certain opportunities. As a prominent and experienced contractors license school in Los Angeles, the Center is also aware that the prevailing situation regarding the pandemic can have much more dire consequences for an individual whose certification is delayed. As a result, they have increased their efforts to reach out to students and help them understand what they stand to gain from following the Center’s detailed curriculum.

By law, contractors require a license if they carry out any building work for a fee that exceeds $500 dollars. This applies to businesses as well as individuals (including labor and materials) who either construct or alter any structure in Los Angeles. A license must also be held before they submit a bid for home improvement projects of this scope, whether they are a general contractor or specialize in a specific trade. Notably, the entire cost of the project must be under $500, so subcontractors and so on are not exempt if they take on a smaller part of a project for a fee under this threshold.

On the other hand, there are certain requirements for those who wish to take the California contractors license exam. For instance, they must have at least four year of experience in their trade (and this experience will only be counted if aggregated within the last decade). Alternatively, experience can be substituted with college or trade school, which can represent up to three years depending on the courses they have taken. An individual may also be considered by the state if their experience was exclusively as a self-employed contractor.

CSLC believes that a classroom environment is the best medium for students to take their courses in. This belief is based on the Center’s own experience — contractors are far more likely to pass their test on the first try if they opt for a classroom experience. The Center explains that a classroom helps students focus on the material more readily since it frees them of distractions that they may have to contend with in other locations. Furthermore, the lessons can be directed more closely by CSLC’s expert staff, who are familiar with examination requirements and are able to work with each student’s individual needs.

There are six courses offered at CSLC which cover Law and Trade. Students will be pleased to learn that they only need to attend a single class each week (each class is two hours long) for a total of six weeks. Following this period, students will be able to take practice exams. This is vital since familiarity with the structure of the upcoming test can give a student an edge, and every advantage can count towards them not having to take it a second time.

However, the Center acknowledges that many will not be able to, or feel comfortable, attend class in person. Even before the pandemic, they offered California contractors home study courses that aim to achieve the same objective: help students pass their test the first time. While a classroom environment is undoubtedly the best option, these courses are also known to be highly effective in helping students pass.

The Contractors State License Center welcomes all inquiries from contractors who wish to sign up for classes. Their staff are standing by to answer questions regarding eligibility, schedules and more. Additional information can also be found on the Center’s official website.
