London, ON. – In a recent announcement, the city of London released a list of construction plans planned in the city for 2021. Several essential pipe replacements in the London area are incorporated on the list provided on the city’s website. While the local city government has yet to release the exact dates for the scheduled projects, they anticipate beginning this spring.
During the first phase, titled the “Downtown Loop,” the city plans to shut down King Street from Ridout Street North to Wellington Street. It is estimated that the first phase of the project will cost over eight million dollars and will include updating the aging water and sewer system. The Downtown Loop Phase will also add new streetscape elements along with above-ground transit improvements.
The city plans to create new sewers at the Adelaide Street North Underpass. The construction will start at Central Avenue and run to McMahen Street. Along with the new sewers being put in place the city also plans to enhance the pedestrian and biking environment in this area and increase safety. The Adelaide Street North Underpass project does not currently have an estimated cost by the city.
Additional sewer and water improvements, removals, and replacements will take place on Wortley Road, Brydges Street, and Dundas Street at the Thames Valley Parkway Connection. All in all, the changes made to the sewer and water systems will ultimately provide increased water quality and reliability to both businesses and residents of the city.
