Bobby Jivnani Plano Dental Brings iTero Digital Impression Technology to Plano

Bobby Jivnani Plano Dental, a local family dentistry clinic in the North Dallas city of Plano, has brought the latest generation dental imaging to the area with an iTero® Digital Impression System.

In a recent press release, the dental clinic spoke about leading the way in new digital imaging systems such as those that replace traditional x-rays. Now, Dr. Jivnani’s practice has also announced the availability of the iTero® Digital Impression System at their practice.

Dental impressions are a necessary early step for many procedures in general dentistry such as crowns, bridges, veneers, dentures and mouthguards, to fittings for orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry. Traditionally, impressions are made by inserting a plastic tray filled with a gaggy goop called an alginate which forms a mold around the teeth and gums. The dentist can then use this to produce a real world 3d model of the patient’s anatomy or a custom tray. In addition to being time consuming and rather unpleasant for the patient, this manual method can often be prone to mistakes and inaccuracies which can cause dental staff to have to start over.

The iTero system takes this entire traditional and goopy practice to the 3D digital world. The iTero device has a hand held wand with a small optical tip that 3 dimensionally scans each tooth and its surrounding gums and foundation. The device’s software then constructs a complete 3D rendering of the patient’s mouth.

“The iTero device makes procedures that require an impression so much more pleasant for our patients,” stated a dentist’s representative from the practice, “We also like educating our patients on how this technology helps us to ensure that this allows us to be accurate in our work which in turn ensures the highest success rate possible in treatments that require precision.”

The spokesperson went on to comment on how common mistakes can be when using traditional impression systems. “The most common mistakes that are made by dental staff when taking an impression are poor tray selection (sizing issues and distortion), poor material mixing, surface contamination, poor marginal detail, internal bubbles, marginal tears, wrong choice of impression material, rushing the impression, and failure to keep the patient adequately still during the process. Poor impressions can lead to many issues, some of which could be serious and difficult to reverse depending on the treatment. All of these accuracy issues inherent to traditional impressions are eliminated by switching to a 3D scanning system such as our iTero devices.”
