St. Louis, Missouri -

Brinton Vision in St. Louis, Missouri, has released a new article discussing the recovery process after RLE Surgery, written by Dr. Jason Brinton. RLE, or Refractive Lens Exchange, is a vision correction procedure that replaces the eye’s natural lens with an artificial lens and can correct for farsightedness, nearsightedness, astigmatism, and is even used to prevent cataract development.

The procedure only takes approximately 15 minutes, and patients can start to see the effects of clearer vision within the first day. For a matter of full recovery, Dr. Brinton explains that “While complete healing runs a matter of weeks, most patients experience enhanced vision within hours of the surgery and feel that their vision is clear enough the next day to resume normal activities, such as driving.”

The article gives a standard healing timeline, including what to expect on the day of and the day after the procedure, noting that, “Even if you feel your vision is clear enough to drive home or resume strenuous physical activity on the day of your lens implant surgery, we advise our patients to become a couch potato for the day and take it easy.” This allows for minimal risk of complications and maximum comfort for the patient.

Brinton Vision’s article also answers questions on returning to exercise and vigorous activity after the RLE procedure. RLE does not keep a patient off their feet for long, as the article notes, “Most of our patients will walk the dog the next morning before coming in to see us” for their follow-up appointments. There is also an emphasis on attending follow-ups and following doctors’ instructions to use eye drops and other recovery aids. These tools will improve the final outcome and reduce recovery time.
