New York, NY-based Birdland Jazz Club is reaching out to jazz fans all over the world, requesting financial help to stay alive during the COVID-19 pandemic. The premier jazz club is known for its classy atmosphere, roomy red environs, large bar, and Cajun-influenced food. More information about Birdland Jazz Club can be found at the following link: https://www.birdlandjazz.com/.

The jazz club put out their message for help on their Facebook page: “We hoped it wouldn’t come to this but we are on the brink of permanent closure. We’re grateful for dynamic fans like Tom D’Angora who organized this effort. Please consider helping to save Birdland. We understand that many people are struggling so likes and shares are welcome and appreciated too.”

Johnny Valenti, a representative for Birdland Jazz Club, says, “While closing down the club would be a very unfortunate thing indeed, we now find ourselves without many options. The spread of the pandemic and the lockdown has meant that people can’t go out for an evening of entertainment, and that has hurt Birdland Jazz a lot. This fundraiser is an attempt to keep Birdland Jazz alive with the help of dedicated jazz fans from all over the world. We appreciate any and all help.”

Located in mid-Manhattan close to Broadway and New York city's eclectic restaurant establishments, Birdland Jazz is a hub of musical and social activity for the jazz community and beyond. Since its establishment in 1949, it has become a historic venue and is considered by many to be the home of jazz in New York City. The club is renowned for featuring many high-level jazz artists in live performances, paired with great sightlines, roomy space, beautiful decor, friendly staff, great food and a top-shelf bar. This jazz venue is easily one of the best places for jazz lovers across the United States.

The club has 60 employees, many of whom have been with the club for over 20 years, and according to Valenti, it’s not far-fetched to say that the club has played a pivotal role in many peoples’ lives. Valenti stresses that this fundraiser is essential to continue the cultural life of the city and all the club's visitors from all over the world. Birdland Jazz and their fundraiser were recently featured on Channel 7 News, and the club emphasizes that they appreciate help of any and all kinds, whether monetary or simple likes and shares. Birdland Jazz has become an important fixture in their neighborhood, appreciated by patrons from all over the country. On the Google platform, Birdland Jazz has a rating of 4.7 out of 5 Stars. Samantha Cortez says in her glowing review, “I came here to see the Ken Peplowski Quartet this past weekend and had an amazing time. The show was amazing, and the Birdland team did a wonderful job of making people feel safe during COVID. Tables were spaciously spread apart with plexiglass between them. Very nicely decorated. The hostess was such a sweetheart, and the service was great. Highly recommended and will be returning.”

Andrew Poretz also says, “I spend more time and money here (downstairs at the newish theatre and upstairs in the main jazz room) than any other place in New York. The acts range from good to legendary, and there's plenty of celebrity sightings and occasional surprise stage appearances by some of the biggest names in jazz and cabaret/Broadway. The menu upstairs is more extensive and more expensive — they have separate kitchens. The minimum at this club is only $10, whether food or drink, and it's rare that I don't spend much more than that. Everyone is friendly, and if you go often, they remember your name and your preferences.”
