Pensacola, Fla. — The world of law has changed quite a bit in the way operations are conducted due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Craig A. Vigodsky, a criminal defense attorney in Pensacola, FL, is updating the community on the current procedures taking place in the Escambia County court.

The Escambia County court has made several changes to their daily operations in response to COVID-19. Employees are provided with hand sanitizer and gloves, and masks are required in public areas of the courthouse. In the jury area and courtrooms, the number of seats has been reduced to comply with social distancing guidelines.

For those who have an upcoming jury service, it is important to arrive on time to allow for sufficient health screening. In addition, a mask or face covering must be worn at all times inside the facility. Only those who have been summoned for jury duty will be permitted into the facility. If a person wishes to wait at the courthouse to drive their friend or family member home after responsibilities are fulfilled, they must wait outside of the building. If a person needs to be excused from jury duty upon sufficient reasoning regarding COVID-19, they must email a request to juryduty@escambiaclerk.com, fax a request to 850-595-4380, or mail a request to Jury Management, P. O. Box 333, Pensacola, FL 32591.

When it comes to walk-in customers, there are a few grounds on which individuals will be granted permission to enter the M.C. Blanchard Judicial Building and the Theodore Bruno Juvenile Justice Center. However, access to the Clerk’s Official Records location and the Public Records Center is no longer limited. For those who are unable to visit in person, the Clerk’s e-services can be utilized to receive a marriage license, pay a traffic citation, pay child support, check a juror status, etc. Visit www.escambiaclerk.com/CivicAlerts.aspx for more details regarding which activities can be done online.
