Lakefront Family Dentistry recently upgraded an important component of its CEREC dentistry equipment with the purchase of the CEREC Primescan—the most technologically advanced intraoral scanner available.

Primescan is a hand-held scanner that produces detailed optical impressions of a patient’s tooth. When combined with the CEREC system’s powerful computer-aided design (CAD) software, the impressions are used to create extremely accurate digital 3D models of a patient’s teeth. Dr. Hauser and Dr. Phillipe use these digital 3D models to design porcelain crowns and veneers which are milled in the office in CEREC milling machines.

Lakefront Family Dentistry—a luxury dental practice located in Lake Elsinore, CA—has been practicing CEREC dentistry for 18 years. CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) allows the practice to provide its patients with new porcelain veneers and crowns, often in just one visit.

“The CEREC system allows Lakefront Family Dentistry to provide crowns and veneers to patients in only a couple visits, which means less time off work and more time with family,” said Dr. Derek Hauser. “Primescan makes the scanning process faster, more accurate, and less invasive.”

Primescan uses a Smart Pixel Sensor to process 1,000,000+ 3D points per second. “Primescan produces images that are photorealistic,” said Dr. Mark Phillipe. “As a result, Lakefront Family Dentistry can create high-quality porcelain crowns and veneers that fit perfectly the first time. Adjustments are rarely needed.”

Before the CEREC system, patients needing crowns and veneers required multiple appointments to create impressions of their teeth using plaster molds that were messy and time consuming.

“CEREC dentistry benefits patients in multiple ways,” said Dr. Hauser. “First of all, the process is faster and less invasive because only one or two appointments are needed. Also, there are no messy impressions to trigger a gag reflex. The CEREC system also eliminates the need for temporary dental caps, which are often uncomfortable and can cause problems with bacteria leakage.”

CEREC crowns and veneers are made from high-grade porcelain ceramic blocks that are chosen to match a patient’s tooth shade. Ceramic is an ideal material for dental restorations because it is extremely life-like, does not contain mercury or toxins. In addition, ceramic expands and contracts like a patient’s real teeth—reducing the possibility of cracks and fractures. CEREC crowns and veneers can last many years when they are cared for properly.

“The CEREC system is recommended for patients that need to protect or restore damaged teeth, replace teeth along with dental implants, protect root canals, and correct cosmetic issues such as stained or discolored teeth,” said Dr. Phillipe. “Patients love being able to walk out of our beautiful private practice with a new smile on the same day of their appointment.”

The purchase of Primescan and the practice’s investment in the CEREC system is just one of many ways Lakefront Family Dentistry makes things easier and more comfortable for its dental patients. Other advanced technologies used in the practice include the Solea Laser and the RamVac Bison 3 dry vacuum system. The practice also recently installed top-of-the-line A-dec dental chairs and lighting systems in addition to remodeling the patient waiting room.

“Lakefront Family Dentistry is committed to providing patients with technologically advanced dental care in a calm and relaxing environment,” said Dr. Hauser. “The practice goes the extra mile to provide the best possible dental experience at our Lake Elsinore office for residents of Southern California.”
