The growing need for industrial roofing in Brampton has led a local company to make a point to regularly publish useful information for the community. Most recently the company has written about a roof treatment known as TPO. The choices that are made with regard to roof treatments, whether on a flat roof or a pitched one, can make all the difference as to whether the roof will last for five years or 25.

The latest published information is examining the need for “TPO” when repairing or maintaining a roof. TPO stands for “thermoplastic polyolefin.” Broadly, TPO is a plastic-type material that goes down on the roof either on top of existing roofing material or on a bare roof that is being built or rebuilt. It is a membrane, like a plastic sheet, and it is very lightweight and also very strong. Using this material generally means that the roof in question will have a warranty for at least 20 years. This makes the use of TPO very attractive, especially when it is factored in that TPO is less expensive than similar materials such as PVC.

“The choices that are available are complex,” said Wayne Cox of Cox Roofing Systems. “That’s why we have made a point to create free information online to help people make decisions, no matter who they ultimately choose to work with for their roofing,” Cox continued.

As a commercial roof repair services provider in Brampton, Ontario, the company endeavors to form lasting and trusting relationships with area businesses of any size. “We are not interested in just making a quick buck,” Mr. Cox said. “Like a well-made roof, we are here for the long haul.”

TPO is made from fiberglass and talc, which means that it is an environmentally-friendly material because when it is at the end of its useful life, it can be recycled back into its component parts by a recycling plant and used again. This is not the case for all roofing materials.

In addition, TPO does not shrink or shatter, which can be a problem when PVC roofing is used. PVC can absorb heat and can get brittle and shrink. TPO is not prone to those sorts of problems.

Those who are researching the use of roofing materials or commercial roofing for any size business would do well to examine the Cox Roofing Systems blog post on the topic. Mr. Cox said, “We took the time and trouble to create these posts online because we want people to be informed. Not everyone knows that products like TPO and EPDM are available and, like any other business decision, having more information tends to bring about better decisions.”

Another reason to use TPO is that the material can be heat-welded to create an airtight seal that prevents leaks. It also has superior chemical protection for the roof which may seem unnecessary at first glance, but it happens to be needed fairly frequently.

One of Cox Roofing Systems’ current clients, Brian Turner, said, “We had our HVAC and vents cleaned a few years back, and the solvent/cleaner they used literally made holes in our roof. I reached out to Cox Roofing Systems and even though I wasn’t yet their customer at that time, they patiently explained the problem and what caused it and made suggestions as to how to fix it both temporarily and permanently. I have used Cox’s services for all of our locations ever since.”

Another reason many people chose TPO is that it can be installed very quickly. The material can be installed using mechanical metal fastenings or in some cases can be treated with specialized adhesive and installed. Another option would be to use a ballast system – which generally means that a layer of stones is placed on top of the TPO and the roof. With a ballast system, no adhesive of any kind is used, which does eliminate any chance of chemical smells and sensitivities in the building below.

Lastly, Mr. Cox said, “TPO even comes in black and grey color variations.” Interested parties who want to know more about TPO or Cox Roofing Systems’ services can reach them at 877-306-7031.
