B.L.A.C.K, suppliers of Negro League Baseball, Buffalo Soldier, & Tuskegee Airmen apparel, announced today their recent appearance in a Black and Wealthy article published on August 18th, 2020. The article was written by Taryn St. Louis highlights the black-owned business and provides a breakdown of the history of B.L.A.C.K as well as future plans for apparel the company plans to release.
Kimberly Greene and her business partner Anthony Robinson founded B.L.A.C.K. in 1998. Greene attempted to inspire Robinson to reengage his passion for creating genuine African American sports memorabilia after a brief hiatus. Around this time Greene had purchased Negro League baseball items from a company in New York for Robinson and coincidentally, the same items she was purchasing were previously designed by Robinson himself.
As of the time of publication, B.L.A.C.K. is currently in the process of giving recognition to other lesser-known groups of black military history such as the Triple Nickles, Montford Point Marines, and 761st tank Battalion amongst others.
Greene and Robinson normally travel across the country up to 40 weeks a year to exhibit their merchandise at events such as government buildings, VA hospitals, military installations, high-end trade shows, music festivals, and professional conferences.
B.L.A.C.K maintains its focus on the education of African American history as well as the support of the organizations that created it.
When asked about what her motivation was to share this aspect of African American history Greene has this to say, “We saw an opportunity to change that. And we were blessed to be able to spend a lot of time with Negro League players which helped drive that determination to make sure that the history that they helped to create was well represented and accurate.”
