Anaheim, California - The Lighthouse Treatment Center, a drug and alcohol residential treatment facility in Anaheim, CA, is reopening its Alumni Program for in-person activities this summer. After more than two months of conducting only virtual meetings due to the Covid-19 crisis, alumni members can now attend in-person meetings every Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at the Lighthouse campus.

The Lighthouse Alumni Program was created to provide a smooth transition for clients after completing residential treatment and it normally organizes regular activities where alumni members can gather in a fun and supportive environment.

Jocel Bibera, the alumni coordinator of the Lighthouse, said that they will be implementing strict safety measures for all of the activities to ensure that the attendees will be protected.

“We are limiting the meetings to twenty individuals which is compliant with the standard for social distancing. All attendees must complete a health/symptom questionnaire, as well as have their temperatures taken upon arrival and masks are required to be worn when not eating. Instead of holding the meetings indoors, we have opened up the area outside of our intake office to accommodate the alumni activities. All surfaces will also be wiped down and disinfected thoroughly before and after meetings,” said Bibera.

The Lighthouse will also host free taco, burger, and pizza dinners for the attendees during the in-person meetings. For alumni members who are unable to attend the in-person meetings, they can still join the virtual meetings hosted every Sunday and Monday evenings.

Emit G., a Lighthouse alumnus who celebrated one year of sobriety in June 2020 shared that he’s excited to attend the in-person meetings after two months of being locked down in the house.

“It’s going to be a blessing to see all my brothers and sisters in recovery. The Lighthouse has truly shown me how to have sober fun. Without the alumni program, I’m sure I would have fallen off and not known anything about sober fun,” said Emit.

Bibera added that aside from the regular alumni meetings, the alumni program will also restart alumni events in the following weeks. The first alumni event of the season after the Covid-19 lockdown was a whale and dolphin watching outing in Newport Beach last June 20.

“The event was able to sell-out within a few hours which is a huge indication that many of our alumni have been seeking in-person connections. Of course, we followed safety measures with all attendees required to wear face masks and the trip operated at only 50% capacity,” said Bibera.
