Steadfast Tree Care is a tree trimming and tree removal services company offering its services in Virginia. The company published a blog post on its official website on June 14th, 2020 warning residents of Hanover County, VA about the dangers of common tree diseases known to affect the plant life in the region. The blog post can be found here at https://steadfasttree.care/tree-removal-rockville-va/.

The blog post identifies powdery mildew disease, thousand cankers, and beech bark disease as the three deadliest diseases to affect the trees in the southeastern state. The diseases are known to erode the infected areas of the tree, weakening their structural integrity. This leads to accidents from falling tree branches and snapping tree trunks. OSHA reports that over 100 people are killed by trees every year in the United States.

Powdery mildew is a fungal disease that affects a wide range of plants. It is caused by millions of tiny fungal spores that form a white powdery film-like layer on the tree leaf surface. The blog post claims that the disease is most prevalent in regions of high humidity and cool temperatures. The company recommends spacing out trees and pruning them regularly to prevent the disease. The blog post also states that though tree mortality due to the disease is possible, it is very rare.

Thousand cankers is a disease complex that should particularly concern the owners of walnut trees. The disease is introduced to walnut trees by walnut twig beetles that bore into the bark of the trees to lay eggs. The fungus spreads from the beetles to the trees where it germinates in the wooden tissue. As the beetle population increases, the fungus spreads leading to the formation of cankers on the diseased branches. According to the post, the tree might reach the end of its life within 2 to 3 years of the initial infestation.

The blog post warns owners of beech trees to watch for beech scale insects feeding on their trees. The blog post states that beech scale insects create small wounds on the tree which allows native fungi to enter the tree. This fungus is the cause of the weakening of the tree trunk which can lead to a ‘beech snap’ in some cases. The blog post asserts this as a safety risk for people and property. The company suggests the application of insecticides and dormant oils to protect the trees from the beech scale insects.

Steadfast Tree Care provides professional tree services to central Virginia property owners including tree trimming, tree removal, storm cleanup, debris removal, land clearing, stump grinding, and emergency tree services. They also publish articles on their website that intend to educate yard owners about tree care best practices. The company serves an area designated by the boundaries on the map available online at https://steadfasttree.care/map.

The spokesperson for the company, Phillip Wood, said that residents should reach out to the local arborist as soon as possible if symptoms of the diseases are seen in trees on their property. He added a warning, saying that, “Apart from causing irreversible damage to the trees themselves, tree diseases are also a threat to human life due to the danger of snapping and falling of diseased branches on unsuspecting residents. A vigilant eye is necessary to prevent untoward incidents.” The company recommends regular inspections to allow time to take remedial measures. The blog post also reminds the residents of Rockville that timely action can allow the affected tree to survive and recover.

Steadfast Tree Care is operational in Caroline County, Hanover County, and King William County, Virginia. The company can be reached via phone, email, or an inquiry form on their website.
