MeowWiki Helps by Donating to Animal Shelters and Rescues

MeowWiki recently reported that it will donate $500 every 90 days to an animal shelter or cat rescue organization located within the United States. Statistics indicate that approximately 3.2 million cats are brought to animal shelters each year. In some locations, almost two-thirds of the animal shelter population consists of felines. Almost 10,000 animal sanctuaries and rescue organizations can be found in the U.S.

“Too many cats—sometimes as high as 70%—are euthanized at shelters,” said Adrienne Jade, owner of MeowWiki. “By making regular donations to animal shelters and rescues—especially no-kill shelters—these numbers can be greatly reduced through spaying and neutering programs and adoption programs.” Jade has personally rescued multiple cats during her decades of work with feline rescue organizations.

“My long experience with rescuing cats has taught me that education about how to properly care for cats and kittens—including obtaining the necessary vaccinations—is critical,” said Jade. “Our site aims to help educate cat owners about how-to best care for their pets.” MeowWiki regularly publishes articles on feline health, including topics such as cancer, diabetes, and kidney disease.

As an example, Jade cites the importance of the feline leukemia vaccine, which protects against the feline leukemia virus. This virus causes lymphoma in cats and is often fatal. “A simple vaccine can make all the difference and could save cat owners from the heartbreak of losing their feline friend and investing thousands of dollars in treatment costs,” said Jade.

Jade also emphasizes the importance of researching different breeds of cats before adopting a kitten. “Knowing what to expect for a breed can make a difference in whether a kitten finds its forever home or is surrendered to a shelter,” says Jade. As an example, Jade cites the Maine Coon breed. “Although Maine Coons are a very popular breed, many people don’t realize that the Maine Coon cat size is surprisingly large—ranging from 40 inches long and weighing up to 20 pounds. Maine Coons are significantly larger than other cat breeds—an important fact to know before you adopt one,” said Jade.

To determine which shelter or rescue organization will receive the $500 donation, interested parties can enter their information into the Animal Shelter Donations Cat Giveaway. MeowWiki will use third-party software to select one person every 90 days to select an animal shelter or rescue organization to receive the $500 donation. The chosen individual will also receive $500 for themselves. The selected shelter or rescue must have a verified Google local business listing to receive the donation. MeowWiki will also independently verify that the chosen organization is a legitimate shelter or rescue.

MeowWiki provides information about feline health and various breeds to cat and kitten owners across the country. The site also encourages cat owners to submit photos of their feline friends—some of whom might be featured in the site’s monthly pet contest. MeowWiki also regularly features feline rescue and adoption stories on its site and various social media platforms. Visitors can also enter regular giveaways. Two recent giveaways included gift cards to Petco and PetSmart.
