Anaheim, California – The Lighthouse Treatment Center, a drug and alcohol recovery facility in Anaheim, California, has launched virtual recovery meetings to cater to its alumni members since in-person gatherings have been stopped in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. The virtual meetings are being hosted using Zoom, a video conferencing platform that meeting attendees can access as long as they have an internet connection.
Due to stay at home orders, the Lighthouse Alumni Program had to suspend its weekly alumni activities and members have opted to turn to virtual meetings in order to adapt to the current reality. According to Jocel Bibera, Alumni Relations Coordinator of the Lighthouse, the initiative was launched because staying connected with one another is vital for the recovery community in maintaining sobriety.
“We are mindful of the feelings being on lockdown can bring. Isolation and loneliness can fuel feelings of wanting to relapse, especially to a newly sober individual. Because of this, the Lighthouse alumni team is vigilant in checking in with our alumni, especially new graduates who are quarantined at home. As they are unable to attend recovery support meetings as well as meetings with recovery mentors and sponsors, we are working hard to provide support to our alumni in any way we can, especially with the use of Zoom virtual meetings,” said Bibera.
The Lighthouse Alumni Program is currently conducting at least five virtual meetings a week and the alumni team will look into increasing the number of meetings as needed. Bibera shared that aside from alumni members who used to regularly attend their alumni gatherings, they have been able to virtually connect with alumni who live out of state as well as include their residents in the meetings.
“This past week, we have begun including our in-patient clients in some of our Zoom virtual meetings. We found that many of them are benefitting from our alumni sharing encouraging words and stories,” said Bibera.
Lighthouse Treatment Center is a complete-care drug and alcohol detox and addiction treatment facility in Orange County, California, and has helped over 20,000 people recover from alcoholism and substance abuse over 20 years of business.
