The Bay Area lockdown is in response to COVID-19, or Coronavirus, the rapidly spreading flu-like virus that has shadowed the globe in crisis. In the past few weeks, the cases in California have skyrocketed to nearly 1,800, of which nearly 40 people have died. California, being one of the naturally higher populated states has increased its’ cases of Coronavirus faster than other states. San Francisco’s Bay Area has been the hotbed of the outbreak since it reached American soil in late December.

Unfortunately, most businesses are deemed “nonessential”, forcing many businesses to lay off employees or permanently close their doors. Alpine Awards, like other temporarily closed businesses, want the best for the health of their community but are hoping the quarantine ends quickly.

The quarantine has closed businesses of nearly every kind. Restaurants are required to only serve food thru drive-thru or take out methods. Only grocery stores are still allowed to run per usual. However, grocery stores have adjusted hours to accommodate senior citizens and extra cleaning times.

The change has not been easy for everyone, and some are continuing to gather despite the lockdown.

In response, the LA Times wrote, “The governor stressed that even those who didn’t show any symptoms of COVID-19, including young adults who appear to be less likely to become gravely ill if they do contract the illness, needed to cooperate for the good of others in their communities.”
