The Flood Co., based in Centerville, Utah, has announced that they have been conducting a water damage cleanup job for a home in Salt Lake City. Water was found to be coming in from the ceiling in the basement. Inspection revealed the presence of a leaking drain pipe inside the wall and behind a cabinet. They had to remove some counters to get to the leak and small amounts of mold were also found. It was estimated that repair costs would amount to $15,000.

Daryl Olsen, president of The Flood Co., says, “We have been conducting a water damage cleanup job for a home in Salt Lake City. This is basically the main type of cleanup job that we provide. A drain pipe leak can really do a lot of damage if not resolved as early as possible. In this case, it has resulted into water leaking into the basement and mold growth has already started. Pipe leaks come in all sizes from small to large. Even if it seems minor, get it checked out; hidden dampness can take weeks to dry on its own. Also, if you should choose to call your insurance, have us inspect the damage first. We can advise you on the costs and coverage before you call your insurance company about your water damage event.”

Aside from pipe leaks, common water damage events may also result from toilet overflow, faulty water heat, dishwasher leak, freeze damage, sewer line back up, ground water, refrigerator line leak, sprinkler or hose problem, and ice damming. For ground water seepage, homeowners are advised not to call their insurance company until the water damage and its cause have been determined by a dependable restoration company. This is because it is not usually covered on most insurance policies. However, some minute details can make a difference.

Daryl Olsen points out that it may be a good idea at times for homeowners not to hire the insurance company’s preferred water damage mitigation company. While many preferred vendors are able to handle claims and repairs successfully, if homeowners find that something is not in their favor, they will need a water damage company that is loyal to them and is trained and has the necessary experience in looking after the homeowner’s interests. The things that make The Flood Co. stand out include fast response time, loyalty, accountability, advice, and convenience.

The Flood Co. can also help with mold removal. Mold growth often follows as a result of water getting into the home. This has to be physically removed because mold will release spores that can get airborne and these spores can get into the lungs of the home’s residents and significantly affect the health of those who have allergies, including those who have asthma. Mold can affect those who have weak immune systems such as the elderly, babies, and those who already have an illness. Mold colonies also produce toxic chemicals that may even cause cancer.

Another situation where The Flood Co. can help is when there is smoke and fire damage in a home. Fire and smoke are not the only type of damage that can happen in a home where a fire has occurred. The water that has been used to put out the fire can also cause damage. Thus, it is a good idea to contact The Flood Co. as soon as possible after a fire. The soot and smoke residue will need to be removed quickly because soot when exposed to water is highly acidic and this can cause permanent damage to various surfaces in the home, including walls, floors, appliances, and furniture.
