SAN FRANSISCO, Ca. – Attempts to stop the spread of the coronavirus have now made their way into the world of international shipping. Production, shipping and fulfillment in China are being strongly impacted by the strict measures being put in place to prevent the virus from spreading. A San Francisco international shipping provider, PO Plus, wants to ensure that their customers know the effects of the coronavirus on shipping worldwide.

Many major airlines – including American Airlines, United Airlines, British Airways and Emirates – have issued suspensions of flights to China. However, this list does have the potential to expand as the virus takes its toll. These suspensions have led to a global mail slowdown and are causing difficulties for shippers getting mail in and out of mainland China. Both the United States Postal Service and DHL have provided updates that they are experiencing slowdowns or suspensions in services.

In addition to airline freight suspensions, ocean freight companies are experiencing backups as well. Many countries are putting strict screening processes in place for ships to go through before they are allowed into ports. Other countries, such as Australia, are refusing all ships that have been at Chinese ports during the coronavirus outbreak. With this shipping channel clogging up, some shipping companies that carry goods from China are reducing the number of ships making the trip. The more the virus spreads, the more difficult it could become for the industry to move goods around the world.

While it is becoming increasingly difficult for shipping goods to and from China, postal services are being resumed in an effort to keep the flow of mail consistent. Many of these effects are revolving around mainland China, but this could change as the virus takes its toll. PO Plus, a San Francisco freight shipping store, is continuing to monitor any updates from major shipping providers that may impact their customers.
