Global Road Technology announces the continuation of its program called the 'GRT Road Safety Initiative'. Its goal is to bring attention to the number of needless deaths that are caused each year around the world because of poor road design and maintenance. This not for profit initiative is an innovative campaign that is aimed at reducing fatalities in rural and remote areas of the countries that the company is currently working in.

Company spokesperson, Daniel Grundy, had this to say about why the company takes time to make people aware of current road safety issues around the world, “We not only make a living upgrading poorly maintained roads around the world but we also take pride in the fact that the work we do matters. Tragically, road and other infrastructure in third world countries are often poorly constructed and maintained - due to budgetary constraints. This results in a much higher than average rate of injuries and fatalities due to roadway incidents than in the rest of the world. GRT soil stabilization, sealing, erosion control and dust control solutions have been helping to reduce traffic injuries and fatalities due to poor infrastructure in these regions for years.”

Mr Grundy also said that many experts are perplexed as to why worldwide road safety does not get more attention. He says that at a recent conference in Geneva, Switzerland, Etienne Krug, Director of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Department for Management of Non-communicable Diseases, Disability, Violence and Injury Prevention was startled how much attention has been paid to the recent coronavirus outbreak and how little attention is paid each year to worldwide road safety. The director did not want to minimize the importance of containing the coronavirus outbreak, but he was also quick to point out that it had at that stage claimed less than 3000 lives and each year across the world there are over 1.35 million deaths attributed to roadway accidents. Mr Grundy went on to say that this makes road accidents one of the leading killers each year across the world. Even more chilling is the fact that some 500 children are killed each day in roadway accidents across the world. He added that many of these accidents were directly attributed to poor road design and construction. GRT position is that this is what makes the road services that they offer so vitally important. The Geneva conference emphasized that if countries invested even slightly more into road design and maintenance each year, they would significantly decrease accidents caused by road safety issues and in turn, save a huge amount of money on these associated accidents health costs.

GRT itself is an international, engineering technology company that focuses on providing innovative products and solutions for the mining, civil, agricultural, resources, land development, and environmental management sectors. They are experts when it comes to doing such tasks as dust suppression, soil stabilization, erosion control, and water management. Mr Grundy says that the services the company offers not only work well but are also designed to be as cost-efficient as possible.

The company invites all governments and concerned citizens to help with their Road Safety Initiative. Anyone interested in GRT’s dust control or other services should feel free to contact them by phone or email.
