The Sturms are long time dog lovers so having their own 'pack' of four canine companions came naturally to them. Gary explains, "Our Petey boy, a Chihuahua, is 19 years young. He may be little but he's the boss of the other dogs and they all respect him. Robin got Luke, our smiling boy who is 7, from Utah friends who have been running sheep for over 45 years. Ruby, Luke's daughter is the quiet one. And Ginger, who is my dog, is a red kelpie. She's my companion for life."

Gary and Robin relish living the country life of the Southwest, as Gary enjoys bass fishing and attending rodeos. His wife Robin is a barrel racer and a member of the National Senior Pro Rodeo Association. Gary notes, "Because we have horses and my dog Ginger and I do everything together, including going to rodeos, it's really important that Ginger is good around horses and other animals."
