Amazon Vendor, Sunsella, has pointed out a series of Google News stories that indicate Amazon is planning to open a new Atlanta area shipping facility. This facility would be part of Amazon’s plan to have the company itself handle even more of its packaging and delivery services. It supposedly will be built in the Atlanta satellite community of Newnan, Georgia which is located some 25 miles southwest of the city. Amazon reportedly will initially hire some 500 employees to staff this distribution center and that total may rise to over one thousand employees in the not too distant future. That will instantly make this new fulfillment center one of Coweta County’s largest private employers. These Google News stories can be seen here at https://news.google.com/u/1/stories/CAAqeQgKInNDQklTVURvSmMzUnZjbmt0TXpZd1NrTUtFUWpxNzR2MGpvQU1FU1l2eHlKMTV3TmZFaTVCYldGNmIyNGdkRzhnWTNKbFlYUmxJRFV3TUNCdVpYY2dhbTlpY3lCcGJpQnRaWFJ5YnlCQmRHeGhiblJoS0FBUAE?hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US%3Aen

The news articles mention that the site chosen to build the distribution facility is located in what is known as the ‘Cubes of Bridgeport’. It’s a 560-acre industrial mega site that has the potential when fully developed to house some 8.5 million square feet of multi-use commercial space. The complex is strategically located on the I-85 interchange at Exit 41. The area is also served by several rail lines and offers a convenient gateway to the local Newnan-Coweta Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International. The new Amazon distribution center will occupy a million square feet of the Cubes of Bridgeport area. For comparison sake that is roughly the size of most shopping malls. No timeline was given by the company on the start date and expected completion of the project.

Amazon plans other functions to take place at the facility besides just facilitating package deliveries to customers according to the news articles. There will also be job training, inter-center package distribution, sorting, repackaging and returns storage taking place at the center. A small team of people heading up distribution-related administrative and logistics functions will be in place there too. Other already established fulfillment centers in Georgia include two warehouses in Metro Atlanta (East Point and Lithia Springs) and a single center over in Macon. The new Amazon facility would bring the number of Georgia employees for the company to around 4000. Amazon currently operates some 75 fulfillment centers across the nation that employ some 125,000 people.

Reporters speculated that the State offered Amazon some special incentives in order to get them to locate this new fulfillment center outside of Atlanta. It’s believed to be a package of tax breaks and other incentives that has an estimated value of several billion dollars. Although no figures were given on what Amazon will spend on the project, Coweta County Development Authority officials say it will be a significant investment that will pave the way for other big companies to come into the area.

Sunsella brought up these news stories because they themselves have a genuine interest in projects like this. That’s related to the fact that many of their products are available for sale on Amazon. It only makes sense that anything Amazon does to streamline the distribution and delivery of its products will also benefit the vendors that sell their wares through the online retailer. The biggest reason people hesitate to buy online is that they do not get instant gratification from the purchase. So the quicker and more efficiently that companies like Amazon get products into their customer’s hands, the more it will encourage buyers to continue shopping online.

The Sunsella company is one that specializes in the manufacturing and distribution of high-quality home and kitchen products. Examples of the products that Sunsella sells on Amazon include their best-selling silicone popsicle molds and their stainless-steel vegetable steamer basket. They also sell stainless-steel water bottles with clips and leakproof bento box lunch containers. Some of their more unique items include their silicone egg and pancake batter holders and their Pastry, Pasta Cutter & Bench Chopper/Scraper with Ruler. The company also has plans for making other items that are currently in the creation phase available on Amazon soon.
