A 19-year old woman was shot and hospitalized after a failed drug robbery attempt in Nestor, San Diego. The incident happened on Biola Avenue and Alosta Street in Nestor, a community near San Ysidro, where a group of three people agreed to meet up for a marijuana transaction.

It started when a 20-year-old man posted an advertisement for marijuana on social media, according to the San Diego Police Department. A 19-year old woman and an 18-year old man responded to the ad and met with the seller in his car, with the woman sitting in the front seat and the man sitting in the back.

But before the drugs could be sold, the 18-year old took out a gun and repeatedly hit the seller in the head in an attempt to steal the marijuana. During this assault, the gun went off twice, shooting the woman in the left shoulder with a bullet, according to the police.

The San Diego Police said that the man in the back seat ran out, and detectives are now investigating the case. The 20-year old man drove the woman to the hospital, who is now receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Police are still looking for the shooter, who was described as Hispanic, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a white hat, black hoodie, and blue jeans.

Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to call San Diego Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.

For a long time, drugs and crime have shown a close connection, with drugs often being the reason for criminal activity, or encouraging it. Additionally, a significant number of crimes occur wherein the suspect is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

San Diego has its own experience with drug-related crimes. In fact, in the 1980s, San Diego held the unflattering distinction of being the “meth capital” of the United States. This was partly due to the fact that in the 1960s, the Hells Angels motorcycle club was the chief distributor of meth in the state of San Diego. Production across the southern border in Mexico was mostly unimpeded by law enforcement, which allowed for the drug to be widely available in San Diego.

As recently as 2006, the Drug Enforcement Administration discovered a drug tunnel operated by the Sinaloa Cartel in San Diego-Tijuana.

The state has its own problems with drugs, crime, and addiction. This is why Hope Canyon Recovery in San Diego wants to be a part of the solution. This Niznik behavioral health facility accomplishes this one client at a time, by helping them through their journey towards sobriety.
