The Ductless Directory, based in Saint Paul, Minnesota, has announced the launching of their ductless mini split Colorado web page. This indicates Colorado as another state where the ductless mini split, which is also called the ductless heat pump, is used in homes and businesses as a way to enhance comfort and indoor air quality (IAQ). Residents of Colorado tend to go for healthier lifestyles and are aware of the value of IAQ. As such, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment considers IAQ as a growing concern.

Michelle LaFrance from The Ductless Directory says, “Many indoor air quality concerns are due to traditional heating and cooling equipment which force air through duct work that is often filled with debris and then gets circulated throughout your home. Many homeowners don’t understand that the duct work in your home can be filled with dirt, bacteria, viruses, mold, fungus, and other allergen that can make you sick and affect your health. The Ductless Mini Split is an advanced system does not require duct work so immediately you are breathing cleaner and fresher air. It delivers comfortable air directly to you. Many home owners are able to solve comfort issues quickly and easily with a ductless system.”

Aside from the improved indoor air quality, ductless mini split systems have ultra-high efficiencies, allowing people to save as much as 50 percent on their energy expenses. Because of Colorado’s combination of mid latitude, high elevation, and continental interior geography, the state has a cool, dry and invigorating climate, with annual average temperature at 43.5 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 13.7 degrees less than the global mean. It is a climate that is very much suited to the ductless mini split system, which has the capability to both heat and cool the home or business the whole year round.

Meanwhile, ductless contractors in other states can have a similar page like the one for Colorado. The Ductless Directory is urging them to claim a state as a way to boost their marketing efforts in that particular state.

Traditionally, people in the state of Colorado have used forced air HVAC systems with furnaces to provide heat during winter and air conditioners to provide cooling during the summer. Unfortunately, these systems result into a number of possible issues. These include leaky ductwork, disruptive ductwork, incorrect sizing, poor indoor air quality, and failures during the fall or spring.

It should be noted that most homes in Colorado have the efficiency of their systems reduced by 30 percent because of leaky ductwork. For older and historic homes that don’t have such HVAC systems installed, this may result in disruptive installation of ductwork, which may likely affect the aesthetics of the home or building. And these traditional HVAC systems tend to be oversized or undersized, which means either higher energy costs or compromises with comfort. And then there is the accumulation of dirt, dust and other debris inside the ductwork, which means these are kept circulating in the air, causing potential health issues in the people who breathe the air. And finally, there are the vast temperature swings during the spring and fall. It could become as hot as summer during the day and then become as cold as winter during the night. Because two different equipment are used to addressed heating or cooling, the traditional system has difficulties in adjusting, resulting into failures.

The ductless mini split system or ductless heat pump avoids the above-mentioned problems because it is used for both heating and cooling a home or building. Since it does not require ductwork, it can be installed anywhere at anytime. And the installation costs are lower because there are no ducts to install. The ductless mini split system has three components. The outer unit contains the compressor, condensing coils and fan. The indoor unit is for air handling. It contains a fan and an evaporator coil. The conduit is what connects the outdoor unit to the outdoor unit and contains the wires for electrical power, refrigerant tubing, suction tubing and a condenser drain.
