Pensacola, FL. – Pensacola bankruptcy attorneys Martin Lewis and Steven Jurnovoy are explaining the process of becoming a lawyer this month. Their guide to becoming a lawyer is in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday coming up in a few short days. As the holiday for thankfulness approaches, Lewis and Jurnovoy are expressing their thankfulness for their careers and want others to learn about it as well.

For those aspiring to become lawyers, the first step on that journey is to get a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. According to Lewis and Jurnovoy, the best undergraduate degrees to prepare for law school are English, Business, Philosophy, Criminal Justice, History, and Psychology. For each type of law, there is a corresponding undergraduate degree that is best suited to pursue. For example, Lewis and Jurnovoy recommend earning a degree in Criminal Justice if the student wants to become a criminal defense attorney.

For students who are interested in practicing bankruptcy law, corporate finance law, or another type of finance-related law, business degrees such as Accounting or Finance are the best options. Martin Lewis earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Steven Jurnovoy obtained a degree in Accounting.

The next step in earning a law degree, according to the Chapter 13 bankruptcy attorneys in Pensacola, is to find a law school. There are several hundred laws schools in America to choose from, so it’s important to know what criteria are best for the student. Lewis and Jurnovoy recommend analyzing each schools’ cost and location first before applying.

While a student is applying to law school, they will need to take the LSATs. Each law school will have a minimum score required, so be sure to look ahead and know what score is needed to qualify.

Martin Lewis and Steven Jurnovoy joined as partners in 1998 to create the law firm of Lewis & Jurnovoy, P.A. The primary emphasis of the law firm is in the representation of individuals and sole proprietors in Chapter 13 Bankruptcy ("Debt Consolidation") and Chapter 7 Straight Bankruptcy.
