Birmingham, Ala. – The industry of private bail bonds can be a lucrative and rewarding career but as many pursuing this career path may have noticed in the state of Alabama, the path to becoming bail bond agents in Jefferson County has been in a state of flux as the state undergoes massive legislative changes. Most recently, the laws and procedures regarding licensing of agents and companies have been revised, changing the process for becoming a bail bond agent.

Historically, becoming a bail bondsman in Alabama has been overseen by the State’s Department of Insurance. The department oversaw the pre-licensing exams for all prospective bail bondsmen. With the rise of legislation, a secondary entity, the Professional Bail Bond Board, will join in on overseeing the agents and companies who work in the industry.

Apart from departmental changes, the requirements of how to become a bail bond agent is expected to shift as well. While the state departments have not released a lot of information on what those changes will look like, state representatives have stated that effective September 1st of this year, all bail bondsmen will be required to be licensed by the state in order to assist defendants obtain privatized bond agreements.
