Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Augusoft Inc., provider of the highly acclaimed Lumens, the leading management system for continuing education and workforce development programs in US and Canada, announced schools that are using Lumens enrollment management system can accept cryptocurrency as a payment method, a first for the education market. The software company also highlights the benefits of using cryptocurrencies, and why education providers should start adopting and accepting them.

As mentioned in a published article on Augusoft’s website, cryptocurrency is not only a secure payment method. It also has some distinct advantages over traditional forms and modes of payment.

“As cryptocurrency becomes more widely and universally accepted, businesses, big and small, should be keeping a close eye on how the technology develops, and consider how it could be used to their advantage,” says Sally Penders from Augusoft Inc.

She explains that using cryptocurrencies offers a number of benefits, including lower fees, fraud reduction, and unlimited trade as well as instant payments and transactions. Since accepting cryptocurrencies is still a fairly new method of payment, offering it as an option could help bring new customers to businesses. Furthermore, Penders states that being an early adopter of cryptocurrency gives businesses a competitive advantage over their peers.

According to Investopedia, a cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual currency that uses a security feature called cryptography, which crucially makes it difficult to counterfeit. Many cryptocurrencies are decentralized systems based on blockchain technology, a distributed ledger enforced by a disparate network of computers. A defining feature of a cryptocurrency, and arguably its biggest allure, is its organic nature. It is not issued by any central authority, rendering it theoretically immune to government interference or manipulation. The first blockchain-based cryptocurrency was Bitcoin, which still remains the most popular and most valuable form of virtual currency.

Recent statistics show that around 4.68% of millennials have invested in cryptocurrencies of some kind. The figure is around 2.77% for Gen X, and 1.58% for baby boomers. Studies also found that 78.95% of all cryptocurrency owners have bought their digital currencies while the remaining have personally mined their share. In addition, the Market Cap of all cryptocurrencies around September 2018 was $209.2 Billion. These figures are only some of the reasons why Augusoft encourages more and more businesses to embrace and accept cryptocurrency as a preferred payment method.

Augusoft Inc. is one of the leading software companies that provide cloud-based enrollment management systems for continuing and workforce education programs throughout Canada and the US regions. Over the past decade, Augusoft has incorporated numerous LERN best-of-practice tools, along with others gathered from clients and industry research, to further enhance its all-in-one dynamic solution.

Today, Augusoft serves hundreds of schools throughout the US and Canada with Lumens, the first web-hosted enrollment management system designed specifically for non-credit continuing education, corporate education, and workforce development programs. The company states that over 6.5 million students have registered for lifelong learning classes, and over $2 billion in transactions have been processed using the Lumens software.

Tanya Sprinkle from Patrick Henry Community College, one of the many satisfied users of Lumens, said, “Being a customer of Augusoft has enabled us to grow, become even more responsive to our customers and pull critical information to make better strategic decisions. The attentiveness of the customer support staff and programmers to the needs of their clients is a refreshing change to our previous provider. Their yearly conference is always great and filled with wonderful and useful information.”

Similarly, Amy Green, Associate Director, Parkland Community Education, said, “Lumens is my best source for program data. Rather than creating my own tracking mechanisms, Lumens gives me a centralized system which allows me to pull reports about my program that are invaluable when telling the story of the work we do. In my field of Continuing Education, we often need information compiled quickly and efficiently to be able to best serve the community, and this database system is an excellent tool in our toolkit.”
