Villa Montessori, a preschool in Leesburg, Virginia, has announced that they will be hosting an Open House event at their Leesburg campus on July 20, 2019, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The Open House is designed to help prospective students and their families learn more about what makes their Montessori and Reggio-inspired curriculum unique. It will also allow them to meet some of the teachers and tour the school. Reservations are not needed and the entire family is welcome. More information about the event can be gleaned from https://www.facebook.com/events/933218993676385.

Ms. Kimberly, the School Director at Villa Montessori Preschool Leesburg, says, “We encourage you to learn more about our exceptional early childhood programs by attending an Open House, planning an Experience Day for your child, or scheduling a tour. Each is a wonderful opportunity to see our community in action, ask questions, and better understand what a Montessori education can offer your child.”

Villa Montessori can also provide a Private Tour for those who are unable to attend the Open House or would rather have a private tour of the school. Parents can call them at any time to schedule an appointment at their convenience.

And for those who have already attended an Open House or participated in a Private Tour, the school also holds a free Experience Day designed to allow children to spend time learning with them and experience the Montessori difference. The school makes use of the Montessori Method that was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, who came up with the method based on the principle of following the child. Dr. Montessori had noticed that children have the natural tendency to want to learn and explore their environment.

Thus, a Montessori classroom is carefully designed in such a way that it encourages the children to work independently and experience for themselves the joy of self-discovery. The teachers act as guides for the children, by introducing materials that the children can freely choose from as they strive to discover the answers to the questions in their own minds using auto-didactic and self-correcting materials.

It is the goal of the Montessori classroom to provide an environment where the children are able to grow academically. The children are able to discover for themselves their ability to write beautifully, solve complex mathematical problems, name the continents, identify geometric shapes, and discuss scientific concepts. At Villa Montessori, the main goal of the Montessori classroom is not primarily academics but instead to encourage the children to develop their natural sense of wonder and joy. This is because of Dr. Montessori’s belief that education should not be a dull undertaking but rather an exciting exploration of the mysteries of life.

Aside from the Montessori method, Villa Montessori also integrates into the curriculum the Reggio method. According to Loris Malaguzzi, founder of the Reggio Emilia approach, “Creativity becomes more visible when adults try to be more attentive to the cognitive processes of children than to the results they achieve in various fields of doing and understanding.” Thus, the Villa Montessori curriculum is based on concepts founded on the ideas and curiosities of children. What the teacher does is to listen to the children and observe in order to present projects to them that will target their interests. The teachers will always be alert for new ideas and methods that can motivate the children to enhance their critical thinking capabilities.

Villa Montessori is strategically positioned in Leesburg, which enables them to serve the families living in the nearby areas of Waterford, Round Hill, Paeonian Springs, Purcellville, Lovettsville, Hamilton, Ashburn, Lansdowne, Brambleton, Lucketts, South Riding, and Sterling.

Parents who would like to learn more about the Montessori and Reggio curricula can visit the school’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/villamontessorileesburg, visit their website, or contact them by phone or via email.
