The number one radon testing and mitigation company in the entire state of Ohio has just released a new blog post about radon prevention in new homes. Radon Eliminator strongly advises that steps to prevent the buildup of radon gas and new construction should go hand in hand. This is the absolute best way to keep radon from building up to harmful levels in any home.

Cedric Mims, a certified radon testing and mitigation specialist for the company, had this to say about why it’s important to eliminate radon in homes from the start. He says, “When people build new homes these days they almost always include smoke alarms and many times carbon monoxide detectors too. The trouble is most people completely overlook steps to reduce and detect radon in homes. That’s not a good idea since radon buildup in a home can prove to be just as deadly as smoke and carbon monoxide. A large majority of people are unaware that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the USA. It’s estimated that it directly contributes to over 21,000 deaths a year. The key to lowering these staggering numbers is taking steps to prevent radon buildup while a new home is under construction.”

In the blog article, it states that Radon is a radioactive gas that naturally seeps up through soil and rocks and into the air. Radon is emitted when the natural uranium that is found in most forms of soil and rocks starts to break down. It’s not a problem outside because it is diluted and cannot build up to harmful levels, but it’s quite the opposite case inside of homes. Trapped radon can become very dangerous if it starts to become concentrated inside someone’s home.

The article mentions how radon often enters homes through such things as cracks in a foundation. It also has to be the case where the air pressure inside of a home has to be less than the air pressure of the soil and rocks underneath it in order for radon gas to enter a home. These facts lead to factors to focus on when trying to prevent radon gas entry into a new home. For instance, one can simply make sure their entire foundation is sealed up well and all surface cracks in it are properly filled in.

The blog article also mentions how a builder can take steps to make any new home "radon resistant". They can do this by building a passive or active radon prevention system. This system consists of a gravel or aggregate based layer of material being placed below the subfloor of any home. Once this layer is covered with polyethylene sheeting and a gas-tight pipe is built up through the home’s roof, it will significantly help reduce radon buildup in any home.

Another recent blog post the company added talks about the damage caused by radon. This article states that radon is so dangerous because it’s extremely hard to detect. That’s because it’s completely odorless, colorless and tasteless. That means it can harm someone’s body without them even knowing it when it is present at high levels in any home.

This other blog post also went on to describe how radon acts on someone’s body. It states that when radon enters someone’s body in significant amounts it actually causes harmful physical changes in that person. This leads to such illnesses as lung cancer and other respiratory problems.

Radon Eliminator considers it their duty to post these informational blogs. Mims states that all one has to do is know their company philosophy to learn why. He says, “The company’s main purpose is to share essential information as it relates to radon, discuss its potential health effects and inform people what they can do to protect themselves and their family from being harmed by it.”
