Pensacola Lawyers Host Annual Fiesta Days Celebration

It’s only fitting that every year, one of Pensacola’s oldest law firms sponsors the opening event of one of the city’s oldest traditions. That law firm is Emmanuel Sheppard & Condon and the event is Pensacola’s annual Fiesta Days. It’s the oldest and largest heritage festival in the State of Florida. This will mark the 70th year that the Fiesta has been held, and the kickoff event for the fiesta is called ‘The Fiesta Days Celebration’.

The name of the festival came about because Pensacola has been governed at one time or another by five different countries since its founding back in 1559 by Don Tristan de Luna of Spain. Over the course of time, the city has seen Spanish, French, British, Confederate, and American flags flying.

This year’s Fiesta Days Celebration event was held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019. It took place from 7:00-10:00 p.m. at Pensacola’s historic Seville Quarter. The celebration included various forms of entertainment, elaborate decorations, and delicious food served in five different rooms. Each room represented the country of one of the five flags that have flown over the city.

Among the local dignitaries attending were the city’s Mayor, Fire Chief, and Supervisor of Elections. The Escambia County Sheriff and Pensacola Naval Air Station’s Commanding Officer were also in attendance. It’s a tradition for these people to “surrender the city” to the acting Don Tristan de Luna and his Queen for the 10-day period that the Fiesta runs.

Those at Emmanuel Sheppard & Condon actually got a jump on the Grand Fiesta Parade festivities as they also hosted an afternoon lot party. This event took place outside the firm's main office on Spring Street in Pensacola.
