All Clean Air Duct Cleaning recently discussed the importance of dryer vent cleaning Park City Utah. The company offers a range of cleaning services, including dryer vents, air vents and furnace filters.

Daryl Olsen, a representative for the company says, “Cleaning dryer vents is crucial in keeping dryers operating properly and in lowering the risk for home fires.”

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission lists household dryers as the number one reason for home fires. When dryer vents become clogged with lint, it poses a risk for fire. Olsen says that while consumers can clean their dryer lint traps themselves, which is one place where fires can begin, it is nearly impossible for the average consumer to clean the vent that runs from the dryer to the outside of the home.

“Lint can build up in those vents, and unless the homeowner has a really short vent that runs directly outside, they just can’t get all the way through the vent to clean it properly,” says Olsen. “Even those that think they have cleaned the vent sufficiently may miss a lot of lint buildup, and this can be very dangerous, particularly when the lint has been building up for quite some time.”

Olsen says that the company recommends having dryer vents cleaned regularly, at least once per year for those who do not do an excessive amount of laundry. Homes that have several inhabitants and do more than an average of three or four loads of laundry per week should have their vents checked and cleaned no less than twice per year to ensure that no lint is building up.

Olsen says that professional cleaning of dryer vents can boost the efficiency of the dryer and significantly lower the risk of a home fire. A common sign that dryer vents could be clogged with lint is when the dryer takes longer than normal to dry a load of clothes. While this can also point to problem with the dryer’s heating element, Olsen says that the most common issue with dryers that take a long time to dry clothing is a clogged vent or lint trap.

If clothing seems unusually hot when it comes out of the dryer, it could also be signaling a problem with the vent. Other signs of vent clogs include the dryer itself becoming unusually hot during a normal cycle and the smell of burning coming from the laundry area.

The company states that while the do-it-yourself version of cleaning dryer vents sounds feasible and more affordable, there are studies that strongly suggest against a consumer attempting to clean out these vents, simply because they often do not have the tools and experience necessary to ensure that they have done a thorough job.

While the consumer may be able to clean out visible lint, there are crevices where lint can build up in a dryer duct that cannot be reached by simply reaching into the vent. Homemade devices such as clothing hangers can also not be trusted to remove all of the lint that could have built up in the vent over time. Olsen says that the only sure way to know that a vent is clean is to contact a professional who has the knowledge and tools needed to thoroughly remove every spec of lint that may be present.

All clean air Duct Cleaning provides professional dryer vent cleaning services to those in Provo, Salt Lake City, Ogden and other areas in Utah. The company states that they offer solutions that will enable consumers to trust that their dryers are safe for use and that will help to prolong the life of the dryer.
