Ana Choired Taste is a musical group that features vocal arrangements written by pianist/composer/arranger Lee Tomboulian. Tomboulian is an eclectic musical wizard who walks freely between jazz, rock, Latin and classical music. The musical concept for the evening ensemble performance is comprised of material from Frank Zappa, The Beatles, and The Great American Songbook.
The group consists of some of New York city’s finest singers. Soprano’s Lauren Lee, and Katie Collins, Alto’s Mary Foster Conklin and Susan Tobocman, Tenor’s and Bass John Mc Mahon, Mark Tolleson and Raphael D’Luggoff.
Known for his quirky renditions of Frank Zappa music and unusual arrangements of nearly everything else he pens, Lee Tomboulian continues to bring his musical ideas out to New Yorkers who have a taste for musical elegance with a humorous twist.
Wry, rambunctious, ear twisting renditions of familiar and nonfamiliar tunes will be performed impeccably and irreverently. Fans of The Beatles will be serenaded, fans of the Great American Songbook will be surprised and fans of Frank Zappa will be teased with a very different sonic palette than the rock icon’s original recordings.
The Duplex is a Greenwich Village mainstay that has seen its share of history. Located right next door to the groundbreaking Stonewall bar, where gay rights and activism made history and also close to the 55 Bar, a place where Janis Joplin used to hang out, The Duplex is a musical treasure house.
The venue has two floors as its name implies. Downstairs on any given evening, a singer/songwriter will be pounding away at the piano. Broadway wanna be’s and Broadway stars mingle here along with those just looking to sing along. Upstairs, where the performance will be, is the small concert venue with an excellent sound system and acoustic environment.
The fare for this one set performance only is $10.00 per person, with a two-drink minimum. Afterward, there are 2 jazz clubs close by if listeners are in the mood for more music.
