DMG Entertainment, a company based in Beverly Hills, California, has posted a YouTube video where DMG founder and CEO Dan Mintz is interviewed and discusses their acquisition of the Valiant universe and the upcoming Bloodshot movie. DMG is a global media and entertainment company that has grown its portfolio to include television, motion pictures, next-gen technology, comic book publishing, location-based entertainment, and gaming.

The company website says, “The relationship between Valiant and DMG Entertainment began in 2015, when the studio acquired a minority stake in the business. In 2018, DMG Entertainment assumed full ownership of Valiant and Bloodshot, the first film of the Valiant cinematic universe, was greenlit.”

In the interview, Dan Mintz talks about the Valiant Universe stories that they plan to release as films. The Valiant library has more than 2,000 iconic characters. This represents the third biggest collection of comic book intellectual properties within a connected universe, after Disney’s Marvel and Warner Brothers’ DC Comics. Aside from the Bloodshot movie, DMG Entertainment has several more Valiant-based projects in development, production, and post-production, including feature films and television shows, with companies such as the CW Network and Sony Pictures.

Bloodshot is one of the most successful comic book series in the past 20 years, having more than 100 issues published and a lifetime sales of 7 million copies in different languages and distributed to various countries. Thus, it is only natural that it would be the first movie to come out as a product of the Valiant acquisition. The story is based on a soldier who was brought back to life by a team of scientists using nanotechnology. He then becomes a bounty hunter for outcast superhumans. Vin Diesel will play the titular character. Dave Wilson, who is “Deadpool” director Tim Miller’s partner at Blur Studios, is attached to direct with Orignal Films Neal Moritz and DMG’s Dan Mintz producing. Other confirmed cast members include Sam Heughan, Toby Kebbell, Talulah Riley, Lamorne Morris, and Eiza Gonzalez.

The second film in the five-film deal with Sony Pictures is the movie, “Harbinger”. No release date has been scheduled yet for this movie but DMG Entertainment has confirmed that it is under development in partnership with Sony. Reports appear to indicate that this film will start production in the second half of 2019. The Harbinger series was a very popular title in the Valiant Universe, having sold five million copies all over the world. The Harbinger series is about Pete Stancheck, who is a telekinetic teenage runaway, and his connection with the Harbinger Foundation.

Also under development is a live-action film adaptation of Faith, the first plus-size female heroine in the superhero genre. This will also be part of the five-picture contract with Sony Pictures. Maria Melnik will be writing the screenplay for “Faith”. Original Films is scheduled to produce the film with DMG Entertainment.

Also in active development is “Shadowman”. Reginald Hudlin will be directing the film and will be rewriting the screenplay, which was originally written by J. Michael Straczynski.

And for television, DMG Entertainment is presently developing a television adaptation of the Quantum & Woody series. This will be a joint venture with Getaway Productions, which is the production company that was established by Joe and Anthony Russo, who directed the Avengers and Captain America superhero films.

DMG Entertainment emerged as a result of a partnership between Dan Mintz and Bing Wu in 1994. It started as an ad agency but later, it experienced massive growth before becoming one of Hollywood’s top media companies. Since then, the company’s portfolio has been steadily growing to include several diverse holdings in gaming, motion pictures, television, next-gen technology, location-based entertainment, and comic book publishing. Some of the recent feature films that were produced and distributed by DMG, and have achieved worldwide success, are Transcendence in 2014 and Point Break in 2015.
