Hard Drive Recovery Group celebrates the 9th annual World Backup Day this Sunday, March 31, 2019 in light of the fact that the majority of its customers simply do not have consistent data backup plans in place to save them from data loss.

"Point blank, it's far easier to back up your precious photos, music and documents than it has literally ever been," said Maureen Davies of Hard Drive Recovery Group. "If you use any kind of electronic device in 2019 and you are not consistently backing it up, the onus is going to be on you when that device fails."

One of the gadgets that many people forget when they are considering backup is their smartphone. Smart phones tend to be collection points for messages, pictures and videos and even things as valuable as business documents. While both iOS and Android phones will backup a lot of data to the cloud, these functions often have to be enabled first by the user.

"Apple and Google clearly saw early on that backup tools were basically essential for a device that you probably have on your for more than 80% of the day," said Davies. "What we recommend in addition to this is simply to clone your phone either to a computer or external hard disk every month or so. This can provide the kind of complete backup that maybe isn't possible with the built-in apps."

Another interesting point about backups is that most people will pick either an onsite solution like an external hard drive or a NAS, or an offsite solution such as a Cloud solution. This might be fine for personal data, but for mission critical business data, both solutions are a way to majorly mitigate the overall risk.

"The fact is, looking at data storage trends even 10 years ago tell us that we are at a point where the ability to backup your data has never been greater, and has never been cheaper," said Davies. "Businesses should consider using both onsite and offsite solutions, if not for the overall ease of use, then for the minimal costs involved."

Although Hard Drive Recovery Group has long been a national price leader when it comes to data recovery services, the fact is that when you compare the cost of a monthly backup service compared to recovering a failed hard drive, backup simply makes sense (and dollars).

"One important point that we address nearly every day with new customers is that even though a hard drive may only retail for less than $50, it doesn't mean that recovering all of the data on it is going to cost less than that," said Davies. "The reality is that professional data recovery is no joke, and although amateurs can have good luck now and again, a serious person that requires their data understands that there's not a lot of 'deals' to be had when it comes to an emergency service."

IT Administrators in particular should take time to reassess and reexamine their company backup and maintenance plans to ensure that all pertinent devices and especially network hardware is being backed up on a consistent, rock solid way.

"The more complex the hardware you're dealing with, a RAID 5 server might be an excellent example, the more critical it is to get a professional data backup solution dialed in," said Davies. "These types of data recovery services can be critically expensive when catastrophic failure occurs, so having a backup to work on can be a major help."

Although Hard Drive Recovery Group offers a variety of data recovery information resources on its various properties, including RAID recovery help, most physical drive breakdowns simply cannot be repaired by users.

"The fact is, when it comes to your data, you either invest money today in backing it all up, or you pay a lot more to recover it when the device fails," said Davies. "A little bit of preparation can save you more time and money than you might think."
