Portland SEO's Augusto Beato lauded India's plan to set up an acceleration fund for startups that also focuses on the last mile projects in the cold chain sector.
Several startups in India offer economic and portable cold chain solutions to small and medium farmers right at the farm gate.

According to sources, the growing demand for online grocery sales is also leading to a rise in the refrigerated warehousing, which is estimated to be worth $17.98 billion in 2017.
Beato added that the trend is global, citing news that investment firm Commonwealth Capital is teaming up with a Japanese F&B distribution giant Kokubu Group for a cold chain logistics joint venture focusing on Southeast Asia.
The joint venture company, Commonwealth Kokubu Logistics, will provide end-to-end supply chain solutions to food retailers and food services firms, in the region. These include all aspects of food supply chain management from pre-production inventory control to temperature-logged warehousing and last mile delivery.
Beato pointed out that pharmaceuticals and flowers also boost cold chain logistics. He added that the use of the cold box module, a product used as cooling racks to keep vaccines upright and organized in cold boxes, is expected to increase rapidly owing to an increase in the demand for economic cold chain solutions for the last-mile reach of vaccines.
