Judi Silvano Performs at Birdland Theater NYC February 18, 2019

Judi Silvano, the unique art chic singer from New York via Philadelphia, brings a star-studded band to Birdland nightclub in New York City in the brand new room, Birdland Theater at the famed club on West 44th st.

A tried and true improviser, a jazz and classically trained singer and modern dancer, Silvano delivers her work with fervor and intention.

This one set only performance at 8:30 pm will feature music from her recently released CD on Unit Records “Lessons Learned.” Praised as joyous, ebullient, fun, sharp and spiky, Silvano’s music highlights life’s ups and downs and in and outs with wit and a sense of artful playfulness.

Known for her social commentary, dizzying vocal improvs and thought-provoking lyrics combined with a sense of composition that literally dances between jazz, classical and elements of folk music, Silvano’s new maturity as a singer is complete and extravagant.

Guitarists Kenny Wessel and Bruce Arnold provide a sound palate that feels like silk and gives Silvano a sound cloud that texturizes her lyrics and compositions.

Combined with Adam Kolker on bass clarinet and saxophones and Joe Lovano on tenor saxophone, the sound cloud emerges with a delightful range of acoustic and electronic finesse. Add to that the rhythm section of Matt Wilson on drums and Ratzo Harris on bass, the evenings set will be inspired, heady and fun.

Guitarist Bruce Arnold has created a unique signature sound that stems from his combination of jazz techniques, 20th-century compositional methods and “SuperCollider", an algorithmic environmental programming language. Contemporary sounds that underscore the melodies and draw the listener in.

Guitarist Kenny Wessel is kaleidoscopic with his range of musical expertise. From Ornette Coleman to Debbie Harry, Wessel’s guitar complements Judi’s compositional temperament perfectly.

Ratzo Harris, the six-string bassist who defies gravity, brings his talents to Silvano’s music in performance once again. A longtime collaborator with Ms. Silvano, their communication is telepathic, their musical compatibility, matched perfectly and their simpatico, palpable.

Drummer and proud father of four children, Matt Wilson brings his powerful conceptual talents to Silvano’s compositions. Voted both 2018 Musician of the Year and his recording “Honey and Salt” voted Album of the Year by the Jazz Journalist Association, Wilson’s deft touch on the drums completes an ensemble of master musicians.

Rounding out the star-studded evening will be Joe Lovano, the much-celebrated tenor saxophone virtuoso. Lovano’s tenor saxophone winds and weaves around Judi’s vocals and lyrics like a grapevine in July. Curling, bringing forth musical fruit that is sweet, juicy and tasty.

New CD by Judi Silvano "Lessons Learned"

The Birdland Theatre is a brand new room built below the Birdland club. Smaller and more intimate, Gianni Valenti, owner, and proprietor of Birdland wanted to create a room with more intimacy. His vision is a dream come true for both audiences and artists alike. The sound is top notch, the vision line for viewing the performers is excellent and the acoustics are true. Thoroughly soundproof, the new Birdland Theatre is a cozy success and a clear choice for people who like excellent acoustics and close proximity to the artists.

“I love this new CD by Judi Silvano - it’s a love song to humanity…” says Tessa Souter, Vocalist, Composer/Lyricist.

“Judi Silvano is a universal artist in a special class. She is a musician, singer, lyricist, dancer, painter and on “Lessons Learned” she surprises us with a graceful pop-jazz sound. (She) breaks out of the well-established waters of vocal jazz……” says Concerto Magazine in Switzerland.

One set only at 8:30 pm, doors open at 7 pm. Excellent kitchen/full bar.
