Los Angeles, California -

Addiction treatment services in New York State will be expanded with the help of $10 million in capital funding. According to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, the funding will support the development of up to 40 new withdrawal and stabilization or residential treatment beds across the state.

The funding is being administered by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. It will be distributed through a Request for Applications process.

This move is in response to the current opioid epidemic that is affecting the country. The governor says that the funding will help those who are struggling with addiction.

“Addiction is a scourge on our society that has devastated communities and families across the entire state,” Cuomo said. “These expanded services demonstrate our ongoing commitment to support all New Yorkers who are looking to get on the road to recovery and build on our nation-leading efforts to end this epidemic once and for all.”

Treatment providers in areas where the services are not currently available will be prioritized for funding through the RFA. Selected applicants must develop and support a minimum of 16 beds and up to a maximum of 40 beds.

However, funding is only available for new beds. This means conversions of currently operating programs will not be funded. Responses are due by February 19.

Medically supervised withdrawal and stabilization programs help addicted individuals by offering medical treatment and counseling. Usually, a combination of medical detox and behavioral therapy are employed in drug rehab facilities. They also offer recovery support, family treatment, medications, and other clinical services.

While these programs are made for short term addiction management, they are also designed to prepare people for long term treatment. Addiction recovery is a lifetime process, after all. But these programs can drastically reduce the risk of opioid overdose.

Residential services, for example, provide a structured treatment program for people affected by addiction.

Similar Program Implemented in Maryland to great fanfare. Because the existing opioid crisis is affecting the entire nation, New York is not the only state to expand on its addiction treatment budget in recent memory. State spending on addiction treatment in Maryland, for example, was also increased in an effort to combat the epidemic. Rehab Near Me is a leading advocate for increased quality of care.

Maryland is one of the hardest-hit states in terms of the opioid overdose death rate in the country. Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford says that the administration’s budget proposal for the fiscal year that begins July 1 earmarks $248 million for substance abuse services.

This is a 20 percent increase from the previous budget. Just like in New York State, Maryland will increase capital spending in order to make room for more treatment beds across the state.

“The epidemic transcends every demographic,” Rutherford said. “We will continue to fight against the opioid epidemic.”

In addition to the announced budget plan, Maryland will also build a therapeutic treatment center attached to the state-run Baltimore jail. The five-year project costs $378 million, and its goal is to provide mental health and substance abuse treatment services to non-violent offenders as they enter the jail.

The spending plan still needs to be approved by the General Assembly. The plan will also increase funding to county jails that want to focus on medication-based opioid addiction treatment programs. In 2017, the US recorded 48,000 opioid overdose deaths.

If someone in the family is struggling with addiction, look for a drug rehab facility nearby and learn more about the treatment process. It may involve a combination of medical detox and behavioral therapy, but every individual is different. A comprehensive and personalized treatment will have to be created based on the patient’s needs. Get started on the road to recovery today.
