SARNIA, Ontario – Sarnia born hair stylist Tyler Smith has worked in the industry for thirteen years, but the exploration of his craft began years into his training, when he lived close to Toronto. There, he was exposed to a progressive industry, as well as stepped out of his comfort zone.
“There is more artistic expression in the Toronto region. More artists, more bands, more chances taken with style,” said Smith. “Not that small towns don’t have their own identity and style, it’s just impossible to compete with the masses.”
Now Smith runs The Woods Hair Salon and has grown its clientele quite rapidly. Opening his own business has been a dream of his for many years, and it has allowed Mr. Smith to pursue other community-based projects and partnerships. “Ashley and I are huge on community. We have built a community within our business, our location, and now we are extending our reach into the local art scene.”
The local Imperial Theatre approached Mr. Smith and his team earlier this year. Smith recognizing the opportunity to be involved in the budding arts culture in Sarnia. It will be a proving ground for developing his skill set he established years ago in the Toronto scene.
“We attend shows at the Imperial Theatre and now we can help with production.”
The partnership between the Imperial Theater and The Woods Hair Salon will allow Smith and his team to assist with local production. He stated that their support will come in any capacity.
Smith opened The Woods Hair Stylists when he returned to Sarnia, Ontario. He is beyond excited that he gets to share his dream with his talented wife Ashley, the woods team and their clients. This partnership allows them to continue to evolve as a company and team.
“It is important to stay educated in this industry because it is forever changing.”
