Mark Anderson, director of development at BCTL explained the reason why. "There is a generation of people who are unable to afford a higher education. As part of the business community in San Diego, BCTL believes it must do something to help the community's future. Everyone's future is at stake with the educational system," Anderson explains.
Often times, Anderson continues, "Today it is a big investment to go to college. And employers want to see experience. There are students who have accumulated well over $100,000 of debt and they don't know what to focus on or do. The good news is that in the educational market is experiencing disruptions that are positive. There are free college classes, many classes people can take online and many classes a person can take remotely or part time."
California is an extremely expensive state to live in. In most surveys it is ranked as the most expensive state to live in with housing costs, energy costs, and travel costs. Furthermore, economic policies are always challenging in this day and age. Most middle class families are fighting a two front war. On one end, they have families that want to send their children to college. Plus, they are also facing a losing battle when it comes to retirement savings. Some families have it even harder. If there are loved ones to provide for in nursing care, that is extremely expensive and difficult.
