Accessible Systems, a business in Englewood, CO, recently helped a woman with Multiple Sclerosis. In 2006, Jeaninne Kasa bought her dream home in Littleton, CO, but since her diagnosis with MS her home has become a prison. Thanks to the Zephyr Express provided to her by Accessible Systems, she is now able to live a more independent life.

“At Accessible Systems, we take our community responsibility seriously and work to find funding sources to help people with complex needs and limited resources,” says Nathan Colburn from Accessible Systems. “One of the people we were able to help was Jeaninne Kasa, and we are hopeful that she will be able to once again enjoy life."

On Ms. Kasa’s property there were front steps, the hallways were too narrow for wheelchair usage, and bathroom access was nearly impossible. Accessible Systems heard of her plight and helped.  Accessible Systems reached out to the Home Builder’s Foundation of Metro Denver, where Mr. Colburn currently volunteers as a board member and member of the Gifting Committee. The work was approved and completely funded for Jeaninne.

Accessible Systems was able to install a powerful chairlift in Kasa's property, as well as make her bathroom accessible. Additionally, they helped to widen the home’s hallways. Through the foundation, people are able to access these services and have any fees that are not covered by insurance waived. For Kasa, it felt like she had her dream home once again.

For Colburn, helping people like Jeaninne Kasa has become a personal mission. "You go into a person’s home and you realize that this is a great person with a supportive family," says Colburn, "and yet most homes are not designed to accommodate special needs. It’s amazing to witness how thankful and excited people get about the little things—it makes you grateful for what you have. We realized that it took Jeaninne almost an hour to get to her car, and it was maybe once a month that she could leave the house. Now she can do it every day."

Every person with Multiple Sclerosis has needs that are complex, but these complexities can be overcome with resources. Thanks to the work of Accessible Systems, Ms. Kasa will once again be able to enjoy her home.
