Irwindale, California: Perfect Nail Solutions has released new information on correctly identifying the difference between melanoma and fingernail infection as a part of their 2018 nail health awareness campaign.

It can be difficult to identify the differences between nail psoriasis and melanoma, as both these conditions have the similar symptoms. Malignant melanoma is a life-threatening skin tumor that can often start in the foot whereas nail onychomycosis is a fungal infection that affects the nails. However, in both cases, nails become brittle, thick, discolored and deformed in both cases.

According to Allen Farrar, spokesperson at the company, "Nail infections are often recurring and take some time to be removed completely. However, in the event of persistent symptoms despite treatment, it could be a sign of the fact that the person might be suffering from a much more dangerous disease such as nail melanoma."

Fungal infections or nail onychomycosis is caused by dermatophytes that make the nails thick and deformed. These can spread to one's skin, giving rise to the condition called Athlete's Foot. Other symptoms include yellow nails, chalky buildup under the nails along with inflammation as well as tenderness and pain in the affected areas. These infections affect toenails more often than fingernails.

Malignant melanoma, on the other hand, is a life-threatening but treatable form of cancer if diagnosed and treated in the early stages. Early melanoma that rises on the foot, however, can be difficult to diagnose. Melanoma in the nail unit can lead to symptoms such as thicker nails, ingrown toenails, nail dystrophy and a bleeding mass. In cases wherein, the condition is diagnosed to be a fungal infection, a lack of proper response to treatments should lead to multiple tests and biopsies to ensure an early diagnosis of melanoma.

Unlike melanoma, nail onychomycosis is highly treatable with one of the best nail fungal treatment being the use of natural essential oils such as tea tree oil, lemon oil, and jojoba oil. Perfect Nail Solution has developed a unique 2 step anti-bacterial treatment that uses the power of natural ingredients to fight toenail and fingernail infections.
