Irwindale, California: Perfect Nail Solutions has released new information on correctly identifying the difference between nail psoriasis and fingernail fungus as a part of their 2018 nail health awareness campaign.

It can be difficult to identify the differences between nail psoriasis and fungus, as both these conditions have the same symptoms. Nails become brittle, thick, discolored and deformed in both cases. According to Allen Farrar, spokesperson at the company, "Most of the population is susceptible to forming one kind of nail ailment or the other. By being aware of these different conditions, it can help people identify their conditions in a timely manner, thus helping them to receive timely treatment."

Fungal infections or nail onychomycosis is caused by dermatophytes that make the nails thick and deformed. These can spread to one's skin, giving rise to the condition called Athlete's Foot. Other symptoms include yellowing of nails, chalky buildup under the nails along with inflammation as well as tenderness and pain in the affected areas. These infections affect toenails more often than fingernails.

Nail psoriasis, on the other hand, affects people who are suffering from general psoriasis. It causes pitting and thickening of nails, darkening of nail color, progressive distortion of the nail shape as well as foul odor. While psoriasis causes nail dystrophy, the surface of the nail tends to be pitted. In the case of onychomycosis, the surface of the infected nail looks dystrophic with subungual hyperkeratosis or scaling.

However, the major difference between the two conditions is in the way it affects other parts of the body. Nail infections quickly spread to areas that provide the right conditions for fungal growth such as scalps and groins. Nail psoriasis, on the other hand, is often accompanied by skin psoriasis which causes the infected area to get covered with white scales.

Nail psoriasis does not have a definite cure, with most treatments focusing on improving the appearance as well as the function of the infected nails. Toenail fungal treatments, however, are available in a variety of forms, ranging from oral medicines to natural topical treatments. But these fungal infections are persistent and recurring and take time to heal.

Perfect Nail Solution has developed a unique 2 step fungal treatment that uses the power of natural ingredients like lemon oil and tea tree oil to fight toenail and fingernail infections. This product can be found at their Amazon store.
